First Hunt in Fresh Water For My CTX

I received my Yellow waterproof headphones yesterday. This morning I went to a very small fresh water swim beach near me. I was in the water for about 2 hours , maybe a little longer. I have never done much water hunting, and when I did it was with a Garrett Seahunter II, with the blue headphones. For me as far as sound goes, there probably wasn't much difference (that I remember) between these Minelab yellow headphones and the ones on the Garrett machine. Of course the sound wasn't like the SunRay phones I use on land, but I didn't have any issues with the sound or being able to hear with these yellow ones. My threshold was at 38 and the volume was at 20. It was very windy, but didn't have any problems. You can see i didn't find any silver or gold, but I did recover some targets. I have to say my recovery ability needs a LOT of work. I didn't think I was ever going to get one target that sounded in the gold range. Turned out to be that little aluminum eyelet. I have put a small piece of mesh, with 1/4" openings, in my scoop to keep small items from falling out thru the holes in the scoop. Once I am more accustomed to water hunting, I may not need the mesh. Right now, I want to see the good sounding targets to learn what is worth the time to recover and what isn't. I can now scan these items at home and compare to what my gold rings, etc. sound like. This water hunting is a whole new game for me. But way cooler on these hot days that have arrived. Here the ground is really too dry to do much land hunting, with out damaging the grass.........No treasures today, but still a great morning in the water......HH

PS - It did seem "wrong" to walk out into the lake with my land machine. I think I checked and rechecked several times, to be sure everything was ready for the water.....LOL

There's lots of water around Dallas. They save it all up in the reservoirs during the winter so we have it to play in during the summer. The lake water levels have held up good the last few years of drought.

I just checked my CTX, with no headphones attached, the threshold was at 26. I plugged in the waterproof phones (which sound muffed compared to land phones) and the threshold automatically changed to 38. I went to the XChange Program and checked what the universal settings are in there, the settings are different, depending on the mode of listening. I believe Digger has mentioned you can set the settings different for each method of listening: machine speaker, WM10 speaker, Headphones, and WM headphones. (If I am wrong about that correct me, as I am learning all of this) I don't know if that is what setting came in the CTX from factory, of if I was checking he settings out one day and changed the setting. I have been using the WM10 headphone connection on land and was fine with the threshold at 26, but I know I changed that manually in the machine to suit me, with the SunRay phones in the WM10. ............So, I lowered the threshold to 26 with the waterproof phones attached, it was barely audible here in my house. I wouldn't have been able to hear it set that low while in the water today, as it was very windy, I always have run my machines with the threshold just audible........... I mentioned in the original post that water hunting is basically new to me, and all my settings are subject to change. More than likely a LOT of change. Since I'm in Missouri fresh water swim areas are it, as far as the water goes..........Keep turning out those videos at the beach, I really enjoy them.
