If you like the multiple tones of the Coin Mode, just press the Detect pad and you'll be switched over to Pattern 2, which is open except for ferrous line 35. If you want to build a new program, the Coin Program is as good as any, to start with. Open it up and save it as a new Search Mode. (e.g. M6). Then I go to the User programmable pad and set it for Previous Mode. This will allow you to toggle back and forth between two entirely different Search Modes. Then open up the newly made M6, and change the settings you want to modify for the new program you're building. In many of mine, I prefer to use the new Combined audio profile, Ferrous - Coin separation, completely open up the discrimination in Pattern 2, disable Fast ON, and turn on Sizing Pinpoint. I also turn on Target Trace and Target Trace Pinpoint. Then I go into the Combined profile and tweak the size of the bins to reflect where I hunt and what I look for. I actually have three of four Combined audio programs. One of them has the Ferrous line lowered to 22, resize CO bin one to 01-22 for nickels and some non-ferrous trash, bin 2 is 23 - 36 for small US silver and IH cents, bin 3 is 37 - 42 for copper small cents, and bin four is 43 - 50 for larger silver.
As I've stated before, everyone will have different styles, different sites and different objectives for targets. Learn the functionality, learn what each setting does, adjust the Threshold to a barely audible level and the volume to suit your hearing. Then simply build your program based on whether you want to hear the target's ferrous properties, the conductive properties or the combination of each. Set your discrimination so you don't reject anything you may want to hear a target on. Remember, discrimination does not keep you from detecting the target. It just keeps you from hearing it's audio response. You can see both accepted and rejected targets in the display. But with that said, I like to run with minimal discrimination as I like to hunt by ear. Hearing those nails alerts me to the fact that I am getting close to where the buildings were, 100 years ago.
