First half cent - 1809

I haven't had much luck lately, it was dry until early October, then we got a good rain. Went to an old park this morning for about two hours. I was looking for deep signals, and after about an hour got one which sounded like an Indian and was reading about 9 inches on the depth scale. CO numbers were in the mid twenties. It was iffy, but hit in more than two directions and the sound was good so I dug it. It was green coming out and I thought two-cent piece at first, but rubbed it a little and saw the "half cent". I cleaned it a little with a Q-tip and ammonia, but it didn't help much. At least it has a date. This was at a spot where I had found two large cents before, and both of them were in bad shape, one had no readable date.

Nice find Doug !! They don't turn up often. Funny, usually the date is the part that's most messed up.
I remember finding my first half cent. It was shallow and had a nice brown patina. I assumed it was a darkened clad quarter and as I was tossing it into my pouch I caught the words "Half cent' glint in the sunlight. Boy, was I stoked!
