First good guess of MXT

I have MXT for five months now. Honestly, was not very happy with the machine.

But today it revalidated itself. In a local typically for New York dirty and trashy park I got a strong signal.

On the screen I saw "25 cents" 3``. Strated to dig and exactly at 3`` I found a quarter of 1994 !! All the times before whatever was stated on the screen was not even remotely close to real finds - pull tabs, beer caps, bottle covers.

So, my MXT is not that bad like I thought of it. Sometimes it can guess correct, when is in good mood!

Tomorrow will hunt the same place with Wader. To see which one of two finds better.

(Today used 4x7 accelerator. With 4x6 and stock 12`` was not able to find anything at all. Possibly the culprit is not MXT but NYC)

"Possibly the culprit is not MXT but NYC" Ya think??? I wouldn't be giving up on that MXT so soon. #1, your coil has to be over the target. You've got to learn your machine, and it's not a hard machine to learn. I would think where there's a lot of people, there would be a lot of trash, coins, jewelry etc. If you're using your stock 9 1/2 " coil, you'll have a hard time finding targets with all the trash. Just keep trying. You'll get it. Good luck and HH, Nancy

In the trashier areas use the smaller coils they offer much improvement. Also, if you sweep over what sounds like a good target pinpoint it as close as you can, then release the pinpoint switch and wiggle the coil over the spot just a small bit. Quite often this will give you a better id than the original sweeps.

Thank you William! I will try your advice.

Mirco, One year into using the MXT and with more to learn, I'm very pleased with it. I have and still do experience the same issues with bottle caps ringing in as "solid" quarters. Particularly very old parks (like in NYC has) and old festival grounds. The caps are usually in crusty and crusty condition. Sometimes you can tell by the tone just like with pulltabs and nickles, but often you dig to be sure. Stick with it.
A far more experienced friend of mine gets an annual detecting permit for certain NYC borough parks where detecting is still allowed. He has related the same issues your having. But you should see his coin collection after 7 years!! High trash areas where the real good finds are deep and signals faint take lots of patience. Some spots he literally drags the coil slowly of the ground inches at a time.
Like Nancy often reminds us " Listen to what your detector is telling you". You have one of the top machines in the industry..hang in there.

Looks like when screen says 25 c and 82-86 it guesses correct for quarter. Today found seven quarters. All "25 c" in the range 82-86. If deeper than 4`` - very weak signal.
Also found one dollar coin. Modern of course.
It is light rain today. Very good. Easy to dig.
