any tips on using a diamond scoop?
The way i use mine,
place the coil(10") on ground over target with the target in the centre, move my left foot to just behind the coil and then move the coil to one side,
place the scoop point as close to the tip of my foot as possible, the point should hold position with its own weight,
adjust the angle according to the suspected depth(by the sound) see note
using the same foot stand on the back of the scoop, a very slight side to side and front to back movement will help it in on rough ground,
once in to full depth pull back on the handle while keeping pressure on your foot(important) and up she comes(i have a grab handle on mine)the foot pressure gives a slight forward momentum as you scoop, this stops anything just at the tip from falling out if you were to just pull back and lift, as the contents starts to sift out the back/sides through the holes as you push with foot
Note
You can adjust the depth by adjusting the angle, this takes time to get the hang of, you can also do it by always using the same angle but placing the point slightly further back or forward depending on the depth you think the target is at, this method sometimes takes a couple of scoops depending on the depth
I swing right handed, scoop in left so use left foot(helps keep balance) so lefties would be opposite way round
Although hard to explain and sounds complicated after a few goes you'll get the hang of it
