first gold

Hit the beach this morning and met another new guy named Joe visiting from N.Y. he was learning a cz 20, I think. Was shaping up to be a disappointing hunt, just clad and beer tops right to the end. As I headed back to the truck I thought I would revisit the high dry sand where I found my mercury last week and got a hit scooped out about 4 inch of sand and found my first gold ring. Nothing special, just 10 kt, and I'm sure the stones fake but I thought I would share. For those that might ask.......Excal. II and my sixth hunt.

Now you've got to find some more or within a week or two you'll get an empty feeling in your gut and a sense of dissatisfaction. Food won't taste as good and the sun won't shine as bright, until you find some more gold that is.:super:

Good Hunt,

BDA:cool:

Sweet...nice recovery!

I wouldn't be so sure the stones are fake. Probably nothing special...Friedman's special, maybe. But who would buy MOM a ring with FAKE stones? You're going to need a diamond tester now anyway, with all the rings you'll be finding. Might as well get it now.

Here's mine: http://www.mineralab.com/DiamondNite.htm

Now here's where I got mine...much better price: http://cgi.ebay.com/Diamond-Nite-diamond-moissanite-dual-tester-MIZAR-USA_W0QQitemZ180236016778QQihZ008QQcategoryZ34088QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Very nice find!!!

Nice going man! Now your a looter.....and your damned to keep hunting like the y rest of us!! :p

Gotta love it when "MOM" shows up, eh? OK, here's what has happened, yer wrecked mate! There ain't no cure fer whatcha got now! You just gotta go git another piece! Stay on it and don't lose heart through the dry spells. Consider this, I went through a 25 hunt no gold spell in '06 and recently went through 27 straight through most of December and the 1st couple months of '08. If you can stand that, then you can hang! Enjoy the act of mding and then when the gold shows, it's much sweeter! Keep thinking outside the box, looks like it works for ya, WTG! OBTW, just an FYI, I got diamonds in 10K, so you will need to test those sparklers! You will eventually want to buy a diamond testing device, but for now, any reputable jeweler should be able to tell you if they are the real deal. Good luck!

I gotta admit....I'm pretty stoked about this whole metal detecting thing, Can't wait till my confidence level meets the surf. Thanks for all the kind words and encouragement. HHS

Well, your initiation is complete. Well done. And yes, as others have said, you will often find small diamonds in 10K. They don't really make the ring more valuable unless you could sell the ring to somebody for more than the gold is worth. And I will also chime in on the suggestion that you need a good diamond tester and make sure you get one that also tests for synthetic moissanite as it can test positive for diamond. I have two different testers, one for diamond and one for moisannite but if I were buying one today I would get one tester that could test for multiple stones. You might as well get a good scale too. Conrgats again and best of luck in the future.

All the jewlers I know will check your stones for free. I have never had a problem walking into a jewlery store and asking them to check the stones. So I haven't spent the money on a tester. Very nice ring. I hope that they are real. Either way a nice find. Congrats.
