first gold !

finally, found my first gold with the gt !
as i live in germany in the middle of it, there are no beaches to search , and in general it's difficult to find anything here, no parks like in the us, just fields and forests. the entire area has not been densely populated due to difficult hilly terrain. hence i have real problems finding interesting sites, the places auspicious for habitation continue to be populated till now, so no ghost towns etc. i used to travel many hours away from here to the seemingly more promising places, but i never found any gold. ironically, i found it 5 min by bicycle away from my village :) i saw a field with a freshly cut grass, between the road and a small stream. spent 2 h walking through it and apart form one 50 pfenning coin from about 1930 (still cleaning it) which i found within the first 15 minutes there, the field was almost empty, hardly any signals. was about to go home, but decided to check out a part of the field a bit to the side, behind some trees. and then bam ! firs came the gold ring , 14 k , but still, i was overwhelmed with joy ! several feet away i dug the silver ring. this part of the field is quite trashy , maybe was a small dump or something. who knows. doesn't look like there was a building there, very innocent-looking place, nothing special. in the vicinity i also found an earing , some shell casings, a lock. i'm definitely going back there to search it thoroughly !
here are the pics :[attachment 132916 DSC_0003sm.jpg][attachment 132917 DSC_0006sm.jpg][attachment 132918 DSC_0009sm.jpg]

in one day i doubled the number of my rings :)
in the 3rd pics you can see all of them, it is a modest collection compared to others i saw here, but hey, this one is mine :)
i like the silver ring with the eagle, it's a german military ring from the first world war, with dates 1914 and 1916 on the sides. it was one of the very first things i ever found with a detector.
thanks for looking, cheers and hh !

You seemed to have turned the corner on your hobby. You have made some great finds, and beginning to read the lay of the land, more finds are on the horizon.

Congratulations on those great finds!

i have been hitting the NY beaches aggressively and still have not found my first gold - but i know it will come...
as they say: "you can have a $10,000 detector and do everything right BUT if you are not swinging over gold, you're not going to find it"...
your story is inspiration to all new MDers - if you stick with it the excitement of a good find will eventually come.
good luck and keep swinging.

Theres no streams or creeks running through those woods? When it gets hot, where do people go to cool off?

Neil

Like Neil says, find those watering holes and don't overlook those big, old shade trees either. People have always liked to lay in the shade of those big old trees. HH!

Sweet!! Always love to see GOLD!! Congrats on getting that first one,!! No matter how many you find, you get that same rush!!

there is a little river in the vicinity, but the finds were too far away from it to be considered lost by people resting by the river, plus, the river is not really accessible at this point, i cannot imagine anyone trying to have a good time there. the part of the field is really junky as opposed to almost no signals around the spot, maybe there was a shed or something there. found some coins from early 1950, but no more jewelry, which was stretched along a line of about 10 meters (3 finds altogether ) , i'm guessing by a plough. i usually try to read the land and find the spots where people would rest, try to find out what the area looked like in the times i am expecting to find items from etc. this find was really a stroke of luck, since nothing there indicated increased chances of people loosing jewelry. i keep wondering about it and cannot really find a plausible answer to that. i really enjoy this part of the hobby though, to try to figure out how the item got there. sometimes the most improbable things come up in crazy places. and if it's gold, even better :clapping: thanks for looking and comments, cheers !

GREAT JOB.....it sure does take your breath away when you dig a gold ring...........especially when you get a signal, decide it's probably a piece of junk ...and then bam....... there she is........staring back up at you..keep up the good work.,............Gene :detecting:
