First gold with my SE.:clapping:

Had our club hunt last Sat and we had 12 people show up. This old scout camp has been pounded to death and nobody found any silver except for the war nickle I found. The pickings were really slim, but you always hope that you might swing your coil over that sweet spot that everyone else skipped over, but it was not to be. I don't think anyone even found a silver ring that I know of. Started out real slow and getting nothing but clad so my buddy Lee and I went to another area. Got a little more clad then I got a weird signal. Dug a plug and saw part of a gold chain with a pendant on it that says SENIOR and I think it has something to do with the scouts. The partial chain turned out to be gold plated. About ten feet away from this spot I got a low signal and thinking it might be a nickle or just another pull-tab I dug my plug and out pops this 10kt gold ring.:clapping: On both sides are what look to be very small diamonds and I'm talking so small you can barely see them with the naked eye. Not sure what kind of stone it has, but it looks like a star and when you move the ring it seems to move also. I was pumped finding my first gold ring with my new SE and hope this is just the start of a good relationship. Not quite joined at the hip with my SE, but she didn't let me down on Sat. I got another ring similar to this one a while back, but I think it was 14kt. My take for the day was almost $6 in clad, a 1940 wheatie, a 1914 buffalo, a 1943 war nickle, the gold ring, part of a chain with pendant and four scout scarf slides. My buddy Lee got a couple of wheaties and a no date buffalo and one other fellow John got a 1936 buffalo. Not a bad hunt all in all and as always it's nice to get out and hunting with good friends. Thanks for looking and GL & HH to everyone.

Very nice finds Eddie......Maybe I should quit ignoring those nickel signals.

congrates on the gold eddie glad you got out and had a nice day

Good stuff Eddie.

The only yellow stuff I've found over the last few months has been a little "discolored" snow thanks to my buddy Hercules.:bouncy:

Nice finds!

Back in the 50s and 60s those pendents were real popular. I think i have one with out the chain. That rings a winner. Looks like you have a pretty good ear for nickels and GOLD.

Despite being pounded you got enough good finds to put a smile on your face I am sure. I think most of the BSA camps have been pounded over the years, but always something left! I can sit here and visualize how when we spent our two weeks at camp, that we used to mill around the "snack bar" which the entire area was basically loose dirt. I know whoever hit that site we used to camp at did rather well on silver, probably got one or two pieces I lost back in the very early 60s. :) I also remember, and this is one thing a lot of the younger hunters would not most likely know, that as a kid growing up in the 50s and early 60s, most of my pants always had holes in the pockets, since the vast majority were cotton lined pockets, not like the blue jeans most wear nowadays. My Mom was always sewing up the holes in those pants. I KNOW I lost plenty of change while playing.....

Congratulations on the great hunt Eddie and the gold ring. I know that
every since I dug my first gold ring with my SE, I seem to find a lot
more nickles than I used to. That certain gold ring tone seems to be
stuck in my head now....wonder if it is the same with you. GL and HH
Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

The Pendant is actually called a Class Key, they are worn with a necklace. They come in a smaller size for girls and a little larger for boys and are still sold today, the senior usually has their initials engraved on the back. The front has the year they graduated and the school.

Thanks Gold Nuggets. I'll remember my first gold ring with my SE for sure.:clapping: I do dig a lot of nickles and a ton of pull tabs and now and then you will luck out and find a gold ring. I'm getting pretty good now at predicting whether or not it's a nickle and like I said, sometimes it turns out to be a gold ring and I haven't mastered that prediction yet and probably never will. HH to you as well.

Thanks Don. There wasn't a snack bar at this scout camp. Just a big dinning hall and a big yard in front of it where most of the good stuff was found in the past. GL & HH to you.

Eddie

Thanks Dew. I wouldn't say I have the ear for gold, but nickles I'd say yes. It's probably more luck on the gold stuff and that's what I like about this great hobby. You just never know what might be looking back at you when you dig that plug. HH.
