Its not pretty but it is labeled '14k GOLD SHELL EMG' so Im assuming there is a little gold on it. Sorry for the bad pic. Whatever stone was mounted in this ring is long gone. It was found in one of the new piles of dirt fill I search almost daily. S-5 coil gave me a strong signal. Ring was about 4" into the pile. Thanks for looking. HH. Matt

Hey matt, how do you like that S-5? Do you get good depth with it? I have one but don't use it much.
Thanks Gary

I have only used the S-5 5 or 6 times so far myself but already pulled a rosie 6 or 7" deep that banged hard, and it was between two shallow pull tabs so I'm sure that's why others missed it over the years. Judging by how hard it hit I'm guessing it probably will hit a dime fine at around 9" deep if not deeper. That's pretty impressive considering in my soil only a few machines I ever owned could muster about 7.5" max depth in my soil on a dime, like the QXT Pro...And those few machines were using standard big stock coils like the Whites 9.5". Of course the Explorer got a bit deeper than that, and the GT is even deeper yet in my soil. So, I'm impressed with the depth of the S-5 along with it's separation. Odd thing is I don't think it's left/right field is as tight as the 12x10, but of course length wise it's got much better separation. I prefer a round coil and the smallest one I can find for hunting heavy trash and that would be the S-5 at 5.5" in diameter. Sure, those odd shaped coils like the 8x6 get impressive depth, but I'm mostly interested in max separation and so that means the smallest round coil.

Matt, nice and interesting find.I need to start hunting lower targets more.Everyone cherry picks too much I bet there area lot of rings left in all these parks. HH Ron

Just remember what me and my friends always tell each other when one of us digs a junk ring...."A ring is a ring." There's a certain amount of satisfaction from digging any kind of ring, junk or not.

Yeah Critter - I was hunting a couple weeks ago and the thought went through my head "I want to find a ring or something similar" and the very next signal sounded like a ring, nice and round, and good pitch, not too deep. I dug it up - it was a ring alright - a tent grommet - but a ring.... Careful what ya ask for, eh?

Nice find Matthias - keep looking, you will find more!

I went back to the pile where I found the ring this morning. I hunted it heavy duty with my DFX/ 13" Detech Ultimate coil and again with my GT/S-5. I got nothing! Hard to believe there was nothing else to be found yet. Anyway, it was a good day to be out swinging. HH. Matt

Nice find Matt, the base metal is sometimes sterling silver in gold plated rings. I have one marked HGE (heavy gold electroplate) that has a silver base.
