Hi Guys haven't posted for a while because I haven't had any time to go detecting. On Friday I went out as I had the day off work and just spent ages leisurely going up and down an area of pine trees in this old campground across the road from me. I got a number of pennies dating from 1920-1960 both British and NZ. a couple of 1933 50% silver shillings a 1916 British 6d and other things. I didn't have time again to go out and it was too hot until yesterday evening. I spent a few hours searching an area previously a big puddle and had dried up. got 12 pennies 1936-1962 inc one Aussie one 1952. then I was tired and was heading back home and decided to walk through the older area of the camp, where there is an old n20s or 30s toilet block/changing sheds all in ruins. As I walked briskly home with detector swinging in front, I got this 42 reading, and it was a small signal. The only other 2 good 42s I had had were a 1913 Aussie florin 20 m away from this spot and a brass golf club head.... I dug it and it was a .925 silver 1912 Aussie shilling, apparently uncommon. So I did a sweep of the hole and there was a 9 signal there and I pulled a bit of tinfoil lolly wrapper out and then there was still another signal another 9 do i swept the sand away and the base of this ring was in there. honestly I firth thought gold then I though oh no just oxidised pulltab as they go golden under the pines. well It happened to be this and it had come up from below the shilling as it was in the pile of spoil from the hole.

I got it home and found it was hallmarked for Birmingham 1894, and had 3 sapphires and 2 diamonds. I had found another ring about 20m away on one of my first detects in that area back in October but it was crap metal gold plated.

I have a list of what I want to find with my detector just a few things like different bullets buttons and coins etc, a ring wasn't on it as I never thought I would find one. and then finding an actual antique diamond and sapphire one I'm speechless really. No my sisters or mum are not going to get it!!!!! it will be on display.

You should be proud of that find, you earned it, a lot of people would have simply covered the hole up and left. Great job.

Beautiful ring!!!!

Great find! That is really a nice looking ring. Congrats!

That is a beaut! Very nice!

That would make my day!

Heck that would make my year!

1859

PS: Somebody probably spent the rest of their life wondering "where did I loose that"? If they knew they had lost it that day they probably spent many days looking around that old park.

Congrats on that very nice old gold ring! That is super nice! Good job on finding it also, Beale.

Yes It was a great find. I still cant believe it. one of my detecting mates said that now I have found gold, that pennies, silver coins, and bullets will be less attractive. Nope, I still like finding everything, well not pull tabs that much but its nice being able to say I reckon this will be, bottletop, pull tab or foil. This ring shows I have to dig everything rather than just the 30-42 signals!!!!! As I have been really happy finding pennies and the odd silver coin. Its fun. Also my groundbalance sound (xt50) has changed to blips rather than a long signal. and the whole machine is more jumpy for some reason. but it is detecting better than it has been.
Go the x-terra 50............ By the way Kiwi, yes come down by all means.......... there is still a huge area to be detected. If you don't mind finding hundreds of 1 and 2 cent pieces. and it did make my year.
