I am still flying over this one.
A deep freeze with bitter cold most of this month, I rarely got out because I hate cold weather and frozen soil.
3 days ago I did hunt for about 20 minutes while waiting for the wife who had an appointment downtown, and I did find a ring marked 925 but it was fake as fake can be.
I hoped that misfire would not be the beginning of a trend for this year and after this find all is well with the world again.
It actually got up to the low 60's today so I had to get out and dig in the pleasant weather even if only a few zincolns popped up.
This was way better.
At a park with still frozen soil I started at a picnic area surrounded by trees so I couldn't get past 1" before I hit rock hard still frozen dirt.
The heck with that so I moved to another picnic area next to a lake that is out in the open and the sunny day we had today did melt some of the dirt down to 3" so that was good enough.
I have hunted this area countless times before but I believe no area is ever hunted out...even by me and my repeated attempts, and there are still tons of signals in this garbage pit that I have not yet dug so I always return.
Like always I pretty much stuck to solid signals that didn't jump because digging was still a hassle in many spots, and I am always on the lookout for gold and all shallow gold signals for me have always been solid.
This was a 41, a dead on tab signal for the F70.
Tabs don't come in at that number at this park for me but lots of can slaw does and if you want to know the truth that is what I was sure I was going to be digging.
However this was a rock solid 41 from several angles so it had to be dug and I am so glad I did.
I have never dug a piece of gold higher than 14k...this obliterates my still existing 18k goal.
I have never dug a ring with any initials...this one has a name.
I have never dug any gold that didn't have a number with that k next to it...this one has only that 916 number so it is foreign, (probably from Asia or the middle east), and another first.
If I dig no other gold for the rest of the year after this one I don't think I would care.
I hope that is not my destiny but if it happens that way this one will make up for it.
I have another little package I am getting ready to send to ARA and this one will be cheerfully added to that package once I can take my eyes off that beautiful, buttery looking thing that high karat gold tends to have, that is...and this one sure does have that look in real life.
6.1 grams of 22k yellow goodness.
About $230 at today's melt price.
Not bad for a short hunt during this warm lull in my normally cold winter season.
