In case anyone missed my big moment on

Now that's a good looking ring!! Guessing it might be worth significantly more as a ring than melt price? Anyway, congrats!

That sure is a beauty! What are the details behind the find? Those filigree rings don't give off that good a signal, so they are tough to id as a ring and not foil. Yours seems to have a healthy amount of gold though, so did it ping solid? up in the pulltab range?

Thanks all for the encouragement.:bouncy:

Hey Mud,
At the time I was running full discrimination except that I had decided to notch nickels "back in". That much discrimination on the F-5 was doing an excellent job of eliminating most all the trash in that area except for a few aluminium tabs. Then I got this choppy target that was barely staying with me. I got curious as to what was causing all the ruckus. So I dug it and there it was about 3" down!! After getting it out of the ground and it laying on the surface and using no discrimination, the VDI reads it at a solid 25, which is in the low end of the foil range on my machine.

Just now I went out on the lawn and duplicated how I had the F-5 set up when I found the ring, when notched as above. Sweeping the coil over the ring it bounces between 25 and 26 on the VDI and gives an audible but choppy response at roughly every other pass.

Next, with a starting point of zero discrimination I started raising the discrimination until the ring dropped out at 26 on the VDI. If I lowered it to 25 it would come back in solid. This was done with the ring laying flat on the ground. With the ring standing in the upright position the F-5 naturally responded quite differently.

FWIW on my F-5, foil numbers run from 25 through 34.

Hope this is what you had in mind with your question. HH:detecting:

Yes, that was a perfect answer to a wonderful find! That is a signal hardly anybody would attempt to dig... really great trophy there! :clapping:

Super nice, congratulations.

Nice ring! I dig those signals Mud, I usually don't get anything good. Can slaw, melted can, 22 shell cases sometimes, always hoping for gold.

For those not aware gold rings for the most part come in as foil about 1/3 of the time....Very seldom don't dig a foil reading especially if it hits hard...

Seems like most feel pulltab range is the way to go and indeed a lot of gold rings fall in this range but so does a lot of junk and would never get off my knees in most local parks while foil for the most part is limited thus odds are better digging the foil....

Nice find my friend as not many gol rings with that high a kt. rating as they would be very soft and not wear well....

What a sweet gold ring! Congrats on your first one.
Why do you think it was lost where you found it?

Hmmm? Well the ring was dug about 6 feet off to the side of a multi-car parking strip. The parking strip is located midway between a bathhouse and a ball field. The bathhouse and the ballfield are roughly 600 ft. apart from one another. There are also a couple of picnic tables located close to where the ring was found.

One possible scenario would be before a ballgame or a post-game shower the ring was put in the owners pocket for "safekeeping" and then unknowingly the ring popped out of the owners pocket while in the act of retrieving his or her car keys.

Thanks for the interest. HH

 You are now on your way to your second gold ring.
