Im in central tx. where its been dry so land hunting is out of the question till we have some rain. ive been using minelab detectors for some time. the etrac is wonderful and thought it couldnt get any better. from the post it seems the 3030 is ... for me time will tell. well today i went to a lake where ive had moderate success with the excal. starting shallow than working a bit deeper. finding the usual tabs and clad. once i get to where the screen was submerged noticed i lost my threshold tone. leaving the coil on the buttom and shifting the control box up as soon as the screen starts to get to the surface the threshold would return. i moved in to just 3 foot of water and again with the coil on the bottom i tip the control box into the water and as soon as the screen is submerged the threshold goes silent. the detector seems to loose sensitivity as well when this occurs. has anyone experienced this? i tried in manual and auto sensitivity both the same result...any ideas ?? thanks

Are you using the wireless module or water proof phones attached? If you submerge the control panel you will lose wireless signal to the headphone module.

yes im using the wireless mod. the strange thing is the far rear end of the detector where the wireless mod is was not submerged when threshhold was lost. but it could be that i lost the signal. it doesnt talk about this in the manual as far as i see... i do know the wireless module that connects to the headphones is not water proof. i have that clipped to the back of my ball cap which is really convenient . im curious about the 1/4 in. recepticle on the back of the wireless mod. on the detector shouldnt that be plugged up? i did make a plug to keep water and dirt/sand from entering... seems it should have a plug..

The wireless transceiver is built into the CTX and the antenna is in the display pod which is why you lose signal when it goes underwater. The headphone module on the back of the unit has been covered many times in previous posts, but to recap, it must be removed when hunting in water. There is a removable plug to cover the waterproof headphone connector.

the HP module is not water proof,,,,,,, your lucky you didn't fry something getting it wet,,,, you must remove it and put the screw cap that is there on the water proof HP jack,,,or as stated use water proof HP

boy i sure am.... for some silly reason i thought the standard head phone module was the wireless module. there isnt much in the manual to explain this... the vid was helpful. i had made a plug that went into the 1/4 in. opening. i took that out and removed the module thankfully no water. and hey theres the screw in plug. ok... back to learning..
