First Fors Relic Hunt

Made it out with the Fors Relic for about three hours today. Hit a tough, post Civil War site that we have hunted with multiple machines (mainly the CoRe). The Relic performed VERY well. I'm super impressed!

Total finds.

.56 Spencer cases and a 2-ringer.

2 General Service Eagles and a under wear button from a small, nail infested area that we have hammered. I was shocked to find these there.
This machine loves copper, brass, and lead. The processor is super fast...faster than the G2+ in my opinion ( and that's fast). Unmasking is amazing. Pin point depth (inches) was quite accurate.

Only got to swing for three hours and I am very happy with it. Still need to learn more of it's nuances and various settings. Can't wait to get out again with the Relic. HH

Dean, you are going to continue to find the FORS Relic to be one of the best Relic Hunting detectors you could ever imagine. It is easily my #1 first-grab unit at any site I visit. The bulk of my hunting is in a lot of very iron infested sites, and the number of non-ferrous targets that are unmasked is quite impressive.

I think I am going to make sure I start with an empty finds pouch Saturday and try to bag all the finds I make each hour. Then, conclude the day with an 'hourly' photo as well as an end-of-the-day 'total' photo ... (now that I bought a camera) ... just to show what one short-lived gold mining town site from the 1870's has to offer. Usually a lot of junk than desired 'keepers,' but if good stuff is there, the Relic can sniff it out and unmask it from all the discarded debris.

Just keep working with the Relic and your coil selection, and with a slow and methodical sweep and best settings for you, the Relic will become THE detector of choice. Period!

Monte,
From what I experienced yesterday, the Relic will be my new go-to machine.
I had the usual "struggle" in flat, rusty tin (there is a tin can dump area). I believe once I learn the machine better those spots will give up the goodies as well. I had to be quick yesterday so I couldn't experiment much
with the various settings. Having been a CoRe user for a while now the transition to this machine was quite easy. Just need to learn it's language better.

I think I forgot to mention the Relic's impressive depth. I dug one of the eagles, in nails, at 8"-9"! Which is very impressive considering the ground balanced at 85. Mineralization will kill depth. I look forward to seeing the depth this machine will get in more benign ground.

Nice finds. The true test is the hunted sites.

Got out yesterday afternoon to a new site that we have been wanting to go to for a couple of months. It's a pretty good hike in to this old 1870s era homestead that has gun ports for windows. Very cool.
Absolutely positive that no one has ever put a coil on this place. We swung the Relic and a CTX 3030. It was the trashiest place (square nails and iron) I have ever detected! So much so that we both had trouble recovering targets from the pile due to all of the other targets masking the good one. A pin pointer was useless. Definitely not for the faint of heart! Anyway, No earth shattering finds yet but we did recover a few goodies. The Relic performed well considering that most detectors ( a couple that I own) would have been useless. When I wake up some more I'll post some pics.

Here are some pics of yesterdays hunt.

A few finds. .25-35 cases, A copper lid, harmonica reed, suspender clip. My buddy found a .56 Spencer case and a 3-ringer, plus part of a brass/copper medal that is really cool and some other stuff. We will be able to detect this place for years to come if it proves to be worthy. VERY challenging.
