I found this flat button today at the same house I found my half real.
The thing I thought was cool was the year of the coin was older
than the year my town was founded. The button is about half dollar size.
That's awesome!!! Half dollar sized indicates it was early-mid 1700s by my research. They fell out of style in favor of smaller buttons by the close of the 1700s. That is a really cool pattern on the button too. My first find ever (clad and cans aside) was a flat button and it is still my favorite find. Coins are mass produced for the most part with only their dates to separate them, but buttons were hand crafted by different skilled tradesman. All very different and rare. Even military buttons when you think of how small the military was back then. A great find. Alot of flat buttons were plain with fabric places over them too so I love to see ones with patterns and images. Very cool and congrats!!!
