First Finds of 2017

Temps hit the mid 50s this weekend so I got out fairly close to home to a few parks with my new NEL thunder coil / pro swing setup to see what I could pull up.
All coins were found with that.
The ground was hard but diggable enough so I could keep an intact plug.
Dimes are 1912 plain, 1936s, 1963d.
Indian pennies are 1882, 1899. The 1882 was at a 45 degree angle at a measured 9 inches.
Nickels are 1946,1946, 1952.
Dozen wheat pennies are back to 1917.

The old turquoise and silver ring was an absolute banging silver signal that read like a quarter about 1/2 foot.
The cross is marked 12 k g.f. on the back. it gave me 12-25/26 numbers but was > 6 inches so I chased it.
The small sterling locket also had some good depth and read like an older Indian penny.
The foreign coin is a panama centavo.

I'd say those were very productive hunts! Really like the ring, congrats!

Nice finds for sure.

Nice start for the season! I really like the old rings.
Obviously your new Thunder coil is working good, but what's your thought on it compared to your other big coils?
Thanks,
Bryan

I haven't logged enough hours on the thunder coil yet but the separation and depth seem real good. the 1882 indian was found in a trashy park with it.
I have used the ultimate 13 a few years ago and consider that a great coil. My prelim air tests showed the NEL thunder had a little more depth than that one.
Last year was almost entirely the stock coil as that is hard to beat.
I also have the NEL attack but I wanted a size that is a little more manageable for somewhat trashy parks but gives some added depth and can hit the angled coins harder.

Hey F.P.D.

Great finds as always. Off to a great start.for sure. Look forward to following your finds this year.

What size coil is the nel you are using

good start right there FPD...!!!!! Keep us posted on the new coil? I haven't really noticed much depth increase using my Ultimate over the stock coil....but I have noticed that I've found a few deepies on edge with the Ultimate? I luv the Ultimate (when I can use it) and feel it maybe has an edge on the on-edge deepies over the stock? I think the round coils are better on the on-edge coins over the eliptical coil (?) but that is just a personal belief...???? Anyways....just some banter and food for thought...but please do keep us posted on your new coil?

I have been using the Thunder coil for about 3 outings. So Far it seems to be great. I think I like it just a little better than the Tornado coil. It seems to Pound on targets that are 4-6 inches like they are on top of the ground. So far amazed with this coil. I also own the Stock 11, Tornado, Storm, and Sharpshooter coil.

right on!...great stuff
i have a full case of detector's envy going right now
wish my 2017 started like that, FPD!!
well played

Now that's a good way to ring in the new year. Congrats on your finds.

I love that old vintage stuff. So you say get the thunder coil if you can?

It seems to be working so far. I haven't used it enough and am also chasing more nails and wire which is common with bigger coils. I need to get used to pinpointing with the coil also.
I wouldn't recommend it for someone just starting out as the stock coil has excellent depth also and I have pulled many true 10 inch coins with that over the years with that and used that
last year to get most all of my finds.
