First Finds!!!!!:beers:

Well today was the day! The man in brown (UPS) brought me my new Ace250!!! My first ever :Garrett:. So when I got home, just like a little kid on Christmas, I took my new toy out of the box and assembled it. Because I was like a little kid at Christmas, I had already memorized the owners manual so putting it together was a snap!

So I took my little shovel and went out my back door. I figured I often lost change from my car door in our back yard, it would be a great place to look. I only have like .2 of an acre of lawn since I live in town, but I figured it would be a great training ground. I barely got off of the patio and BING! I get a sound! Now as they recommended I left the machine in Coin Mode, so I was excited to get a register! According to the screen I have a nickle! (I soon learned about this...) needless to say my FIRST ITEM was.....A SCREW!!!! So I guess they give it to you at work AND while detecting!? Throughout my 2 hours of detecting I had not one nickle, however ever time I registered a nickle out popped junk. :nopity:

But shortly after I found something that bounced between penny and nickle....thankfully it was a penny! It turned out to be a clad coin. Next I kept getting dime signals but no dimes. Penny's were coming up as dimes. I assume it had to do with the sensitivity and how corroded they had become. Eventually I got good solid quarter tones and out popped my first quarter! Then a second! Then after several cans that came up as penny's...a third Quarter.

I read a lot on here people said it was a good "Dime" machine. Often Dimes were bouncing around, I was excited, could it be SILVER dimes as often I read? Nope....more Penny's!!! Soon after I gave up digging on anything less than a dime reading. LOL.

My last two finds rang as dimes...and FINALLY I got two dimes!

HOWEVER...in the process of digging my shovel BROKE! So I had to actually use a big shovel that was pretty heavy to walk all around this .2 of an acre! (I guess they are right...you DO lose weight doing this!!!) :detecting:

I DID find a :pulltab: which was kinda funny!

So after two hours I ended up with $1.05 from my own back yard. I guess it IS everywhere!!! Now I can call my dad and tell him he was right...my house IS a money pit!!! LOL. (Thankfully it really isn't!)

I plan on buying a new shovel Friday Morning and going to have the day off so I may hit a few places I have in mind at a local park! I will keep on posting as I find more things! I figure once I hit about $100 in clad I'll invest in a tumbler to start cleaning them.

Thanks for reading and Happy Canada Day to our neighbors up north!!!:canadaflag:

:usaflag:Better than I did on my first day out..way to go !!

Pretty soon you will have it down to a science...good luck !

Hey.. ya did good...keep up the good work! HH!

Congratulations on your new toy. it gets discouraging sometimes to dig up pull tabs and (in my yard) rusty nails that ring up as quarters, but for me the thrill is in the hunt. And in the midst of all that trash, sometimes you find a real treasure. I've had really good luck in parks - the tot lots, sand volleyball courts and around the vending machines, the water fountains (known as a bubbler up here) and sometimes in front of the restrooms. Good luck and GO GET 'EM.

if the ace stays on dime 9 times out of ten its a can or aluminum .if it bounces from dime to penny usually a penny or dime .if it bounces from dime to quarter it a silver dime.

Hey, you did GREAT! My first day consisted of one penny.

Great job, keep it up

I set aside all my clad from my first year of detecting for tumbling over the winter. What a mistake! I now do it in about fifty dollar increments. $100 in clad is a good number too. It'll take a day or two or three to clean that many coins. Now get out there and get busy!

Chris

Congratulations on your first finds. Many times, on any Garrett machine, when you get the nickle icon you will in fact get trash, usually a pop top in my experience.
