Well, after a few hours practice with test targets in a volleyball sandpit I'd previously cleared of all targets, I took my new F4 to my local beach (Florida gulf coast)... I arrived at my usual time of 10pm and hunted until 3am... I prefer night hunting!! No questions, No people and I can hunt anywhere!! I have an LED headlamp, plus an attached small LED light to the detector shaft to illuminate the coil... So, here are my observations ( I was using the DD coil by the way)... Dry sand hunting I was using all metal mode and verifying in DISC once hitting a target... Wet sand, the detector goes positive in all metal, and there is not enough tuning ability (turning the knob counterclockwise) to make the detector neutral... In wet sand I used DISC, but had to use low sensitivity to quiet the chatter... It seemed to me that the threshold (+ -) did nothing... I'm thinking (hoping) that as I get more tuned into the detector that I may start to be able to tell the difference between the chatter and a REAL target signal and I'll be able to go up in sensitivity... With that said, I found nothing in the wet sand, and after about an hour I moved to the dry sand... Dry sand the detector was magic, I did dig bottlecaps as they mimic Quarters, but the new style tabs people break off come in pretty solid as a 37 on target ID... On our beach there are alot of little booths where beach chairs, umbrellas, waverunners, sailboats, parasailing trips are all rented and sold... These I have pretty well cleaned out and are a continuous producer of coins... Around these I hunted totally in DISC mode with Iron and Foil rejected... And since I hunt in the middle of the night I'm able to detect on the sand on the resort beaches up close to the beach bars where they sit out tables... Doing this in the daytime would be totally out of the question as I'd be right in the the middle of high traffic areas... Next trip out I'm thinking about trying the 8 inch concentric on the wet sand (anyone have a thought on this?)... Now to my finds... I dug my fair share of trash but went home with $2.51 in clad, a decent fishing lure, and a 925 Sterling Silver Ring!!
