First E-trac Beach Hunt

fonedoc

New member
Heading out this weekend to Myrtle Beach for my first beach hunt of the season. :)

Loaded up on settings via the Xchnage Program... Any last min. suggestions?

PS> Taking Andy's book for a refresher as needed.

Keep your E-Trac clean. Salt air can start eating away at it within 24 hours. Be careful in the water and do not raise your coil above the height of the control unit as water in the stem can run into the control unit. Do not tell anyone on the beach that you found jewelry. A water pouch would help keep rings out of site. If they ask, you've just found some loose change. If you have a big coil (15 x 12) use it. Hit the beach at low tide from the high water mark down to the water line. During the day, make a mental note of the location where everyone was laying on the beach. That's where the fresh drops would be. Hunt areas with a heavy concentration of shells. Have fun and good luck.

If the conditions allow it I hunt in pinpoint mode. On my beaches that will find deeper targets. Sometimes there will be too much black sand and it's too noisy. When I hit a target I bounce back to an open screen and see if I get a good ID. Sometimes it's too deep to get a solid ID and I dig anyway! If the targets are deep, swing slow. Long tones can help there as well or even pitch hold though I don't like it as much, just a personal thing I guess. Clean thoroughly after each hunt for sure.

WoW! Thanks for all that info, I will be at some local freshwater beaches soon and all that you posted is very helpful! I like the one about not raising the coil above the control box, thats one mistake that I bet alot of people make their first time out into knee high water.
and thats a killer! Literally!!

A lot of guys over here use a silicon sealant in the shaft and near the head just to give added protection of water running back to the control box, and if you are in the water use it with a harness! just in case you drop it. Good luck.

I used the bath tub silcone, small coil works great in water, great luck with 6X8 at Corolla.I set up fishing rod and hunted at night. When you become land lubber again you can remove silicone.I have a friend who used play dough to seal shaft.

Thought I would let you all know.. and show my very first ring find. I did not get to hunt very much do to weather, kids, more weather.. blah, blah, blah. Can't wait to get back out.. maybe the local park :)

Thanks for all your input.
