First Dollar coin

Not old but it's my first.Went to a park today my 1500 rang out .25 cents at 2 inches.Out comes this coin not a Quarter ? As I picked it up what a surprise.

Congratulations vtcoinhunter. It is rare to find a US dollar coin of any kind, old or new.

Sure wish dollar coins were as common a find here in the US as they are in Canada. And, the Canadians have another advantage ..... a two dollar coin. Sure must be nice.

Is there serious talk about minting a $5 coin?

HH bob

Only the stupid U.S. Mint would make a dollar coin the same size as a quarter. That's why both the Susan B. and this one went over like a lead balloon. Why didn't the boobs make it the size of the original silver dollar. Now there was a coin. Here's some I found in a cache years ago. This is a big pic. The other pic is a different cache.

THey should be laying everywhere as the mint shucked out over a billion of them but everyone is hoarding them. Why I don't know. With that many minted they ain't never going to be worth more than face value.

Bill

They look and feel too much like a quarter. Lots of people won't carry them for fear of spending them as quarters.

Just my thoughts
Bob

I can't remember what the silver dollar cache rang in at. Been some years ago and it was buried in a paint can and I was using a Compass Relic Magnum 7. The pewter bank gave a junk signal and was about a foot down in an abandoned park.

Bill

Yeah and they stick them in vending machines by mistake. Our government is so stupid. The Susan B. was a total dud because of its size, then the morons make another one the same size. It's incredible.

I finally found my first Dollar Coin as well today. It's also a 2000 Sacagawea in similar condition to the one at the beginning of this thread.

It came from a soccer field about 3" deep and on the ACE-250 bounced solidly between a quarter and a dime. From the sound, I really expected a quarter and when I first picked it up I thought "oh, it's another token of some sort". I tossed it in the pouch and didn't even realize what I had until I go home an cleaned the muck off of it. It was a plesant surprise.

Yeah they get cruddy quick and are often mistaken for quarters. The 2000's seem to be the only ones lost. I have about 31 of them - all 2000's. Don't know what happened to the other six years that were minted.

Bill

I didn't know the 2000 was the collectible one, when I bought my Tinytech probe it came with 2 of them in the battery compartment.
