So far the Equinox has been a GREAT machine. Today I had a problem and am waiting to see solutions. I took my toy for its first dive today. I dive in one spot loaded with history. This was a public beach from 1909 - 1963. No clad is found here and very little trash. Here is my setup:
The shaft is a cut down Excal lower and not using the middle Equinox. Headphones were made in California. Not sure if I am allowed to identify the maker. Love the way it feels and works at 7 - 9' deep.
The headphones were custom made and are fantastic while wading. The problem is with diving. To be VERY FAIR, I have a hearing loss from the USAF which doesn't help. When I use my CZ's while wading I cannot turn the volume past 4 without it being too much for me. While diving the volume has to be on 10. I am also having to wear a 5mm hood as the water is just a bit cold for me still in this place.
With the volume at 25 I had to stop breathing to hear anything the machine was telling me. Can it be the headphones? ABSOLUTELY. I wrote to the maker and haven't heard. I will also be buying a pair of Minelab phones when my supplier has them.
I am wondering if Minelab has a way to increase the volume for folks that are hard of hearing also? They do give military discounts. Can they tweak the machine a bit for disabled military folks?
I did find targets but I struggled a lot. This thing hits on very small brass. Impressive. Besides the volume I only have one other change I would love to see on the next edition. An overload tone on large items. I did dig a few great sounding can tops. And boy did I dig deep!! Hate passing up any signal while playing.
One merc dime and nice size silver ring were my better finds. Old locker tags from the beach and old brass buckles were also nice deep finds. My favorite find is the old pendent watch.
This machine is impressive. I just need to get this issue resolved. One problem with waiting to see how it works without a hood in this spot is the weeds grow fast and soon I won't be able to play at all here.
