First dfx vs se test results

DFX-Gregg

Well-known member
Well a few said all tests would be tainted because the coil sizes I was using were not exact...so my first test results I decided to give the dfx an advantage...or so I thought! Well here goes...testing begins very simply with a cent, nickel, dime, half dollar and a silver dollar...results as follows... I want to make it clear these were just using no adjustments...factory preset coin program used for dfx. No adjustments...

These results are the first of a series of tests I will be conducting...remember I treated the dfx and se as detectors right out of the box turn and go programs....just to see some basic results...as I learn the Se more...I will make adjustments to both the Se and dfx to see if results are any different...really not so much in increased depth but depth difference between detectors....

Results in inches, based on solid strong repeatable signals.

dfx with stock (950) coil 1cent 6.5 nickel 6.0 dime 6.5 quarter 7.0 half dollar 7.0 dollar 7.0

Se with smaller 8" ML coil 1 cent 8.0 nickel 8.0 dime 7.0 quarter 8.0 half dollar 8.5
dollar 8.5

air test or buried targets Gregg?? keep in mind that also that the explorer hates disturbed ground ..like plowed fields..altho it will STILL find stuff in those conditions

Yea, I have always found the DFX to be lame right out of the box. I think Whites does that so that it will work for almost anybody in almost every environment. White's machines can be temperamental if you run them hot. New people probably wouldn't like the results if it chattered all the time. The tests will get really interesting when you learn to customize both machines. I think the explorer will excel in areas people have been talking about - Iron Masking ans deep silver. The DFX on a new site would be my first choice, because of its fast pace and easy display. But I got a feeling I would always be finishing the job with a Minelab for all those masked, extra goodies. Thanks for conducting these tests.

That is really not bad for the DFX and stock program which is pretty lame. I expected worse.

Glad to see you got 'em both fired up Gregg!
Looks like they are running pretty close.
How do you like the SE tones? or do you have it in a mono tone???

If you need a small ladies Au 14k ring to include in the testing I'd be glad to send you one...
HH

Thanks but I did find enough gold and silver jewelry for testing from last year...even sold a few rings...so I am set there. I always used tone id and vco on the dfx...so I don't mind the different tones....just have to get used to them....

Yes I thought the dfx did ok too Larry....just the signal response on the Se was much crisper and clearer...but not bad on the dfx.

I do know how to customize the dfx...but not the Se yet...so I wanted it to be a fair test.... With the dfx I tried tons of programs but for me the eeprom hi pro program with very slight mods worked well in the areas I hunt. In January I was able to recover over $35 in clad using it in six days... But once again no silver....hopefully this is an area where the Se getting extra depth will help...thanks..

These were just simple air tests...no mods at all...ground still to hard here...but 50's next week!:detecting:

DFX - Greg, This looks like it is going to be an interesting test. Good luck.

Gregg, Good luck on your testing and thanks for taking time to share your results here. I myself went from the DFX to the SE but held on to the DFX till just recently thinking I might go back to her. When you are done testing do yourself a favor and start leaving the DFX at home and focus on the SE you will pick it up faster that way. Regards Tom

I posted some of my thoughts over in the DFX forum when Larry took over as moderator and you rode me pretty hard about the depth I was getting with my Explorer. I'm glad you've got to see it with your own eyes. Just think what your Explorer can do when it is tweaked and you really, really get to know what it is telling you. You won't think my 14 inch coin finds are exaggerations. Welcome to the world of the Explorer.

Thanks I have not done enough testing or have enough use to even make any real comments on the Explorer yet...but for me being wrong is part of the game...and I hope in this case you are right! Obviously after watching the finds you guys over here were bringing in... I had to see for myself....
