I am an American living in a 16th century town in the center of Mexico and decided to see if there was any history buried around the town. I ordered a Quick Draw 2 for Christmas and received it on Jan 04 at 430 in the evening. Still having a couple of hours of light I decided to give it a test run at some very, very old ruins I found about 3/4 of a mile off a hiking trail outside of town.
I put in the batteries and let it go on All Metal, planing to remove everything from the area that I can find with my 8 inch coil and then concentrate with a 10 inch coil for the deeper hits. I started digging, and 45 min latter I have a 4 rusted twist off tops, 2 pieces of gum foil, and 3 pull tops. I am starting to feel a little frustrated. Not one hit deeper then 4 inches, I'm thinking the minerals in the stones of this very stony soil is interfering with the depth. I flip out my last plug for the day and a chunk of something disproportionately heavy thumps to the ground, I pick it up and felt the 3/4 of an inch thick corner of something 3 inches long by a 1.25 inch wide. I'm thinking probably Iron or Lead mark the spot and bag it with the rest.
When I get home I have a look at it and realized it was silver when I put a magnet to it and when I got no action put the file to it. Shiny, shiny on the inside. Pulled out the crucible and the torch and 25 min latter a 12.5 oz ingot , 95% to 97 % pure silver.
At today's price of silver, I literally got my money back from the purchase and shipping of the Quick Draw 2 in one hour.
I have been doing a lot of research with my computer and Google Earth. Lots of reading on web sites like this one as I waited a couple of weeks for the machine.
Looking forward to systematically clearing the entire area of anything metal.
Very, Very cool.

Thats a great find hope there's more at that location.
Congrats !!!

That is totally cool and amazing! What sort of laws do you have to adhere to down there regarding metal detecting/treasure hunting? What are the risks, just wandering around down there, looking for treasure with your metal detector? It would be interesting to hear more about that aspect too.
Thanks,
Idaho PRB

Private property you need owners permission, public property all is fair, however one should be discreet. I am putting flower beds all along the walls and cleaning the place up.(removing trash, glass, and lots of stones) It is a fairly big place with lots of potential for quite a few finds. In the process the ruins get a face lift and the town gets a hidden little garden in the middle of a hiking area. I doubt any one will mind me doing it.
It also allows me to use the hand held pin pointer without drawing attention and will miss nothing in the search.
Thanks,
