First day with SE Pro!

I recently just bought a used one and was dying to get out early today to try it out. I am only a novice to the hobby but I am prepared for the learning curve. I hit a local park where I found an 1902 indian head and a 1906 barber dime and figured there MUST be old coins and if any detector will seek them out it will be the se pro. After about an hour or so i dug up a 1920 merc and a 1907 indian head. by the end of the day i got another 5 wheats the oldest being 1916. Although, I began to dig a lot of empty holes...some were even a foot deep and tried pinpointing but NOTHING. This bad streak seemed to go on forever and decided to give up and go home. Is there any explanation for these empty ones? I am completely new to the detector and I want to learn as much as I can about it. Another question I had was what coins fall under the descrimination of Fe coins? I was confused what an iron coin was? Also what are your typical readings for quarters and nickels because all i was getting was pennys and dimes. Much appreciated!! -Taylor

An iron coin, that would probably be the 43 steel wheat penny.
Quarters should read 00-30,as should any silver, nickels, well, around 11-05,10-05
