First day out with the Cortes.

Today I was able to get the Cortes out for a couple of hours, between park events. I went to a play ground that I have not hunted yet. I managed to get $1.37 in clad (nickels, pennies, quarters, dimes) Also some local tokens and some coins from El Salvador, also a boy scout pocket knife. Along with the usual box of pull tabs and bobby pins. I twas a good chance to rid the playground of a handfull of nails and a razor blade. I can see that this is going to be a good machine but man it is going to take alot of getting use to. The single tone is very difficult with me being hard of hearing. I have the good set of unuprobe head phones and that helps this unit is altogether different than the BH. Leraning the TID is a small challenge due to alot of things have a wide span on numbers, such as pull tabs they will register from 18 to 60 and all coins or anything similar in size will read 71 to 95. I' sure that it will all come to me by reading the info on this forum and also I am writing every dig down with a complete discription of the readings, I will average them out and hopefull get a better Idea. I think I will be happy with it. But any advice ya'll may have it is welcomed. Thanks and HH

If you are hard of hearing they do sell a vibrating attachement for your head phones. Nice to hear you found some find's today the ground still frozen in my area :clapping:

Hmmm.
I think someone mentioned on a prior headphone post here that Ratphones had a bit deeper tone than Killer B's....
A day spent trying headphones at a shop might be wise... or contact a MD club in your area????

Aside from that option, perhaps an internal adjustment could be made by the factory to tweak the audio oscillator?

After all those years as a roadie for Aerosmith my ears aren't so good either.
That's not really true!
But I was a stationary engine mechanic in the oil patch for years, and also drove diesel trucks in freeway construction.
That dimmed 'em down equally. The Harley's knocked my right side down quite a bit.

I'm sure I had too much fun, when younger...

There's also a picture posted that you can print out and tape on your display screen that will help.

I don't recall who was making them, but somebody was making an amplifier that was used in-line between the headphones and the headphone jack on the machine, to increase (amplify) the audio volume to the headphones.
There was also a visual aid that lit up an LED by the sound generated from the machine audio jack, and I think a vibrating device also driven from the audio jack.

I have taken the Cortes out to play again today for about 4 hours, using the uniprobe headphones I am able to adjust the volume but my problem is the tones blend together. But I found out that using all metal I could adjust the threshold on the unit and also the headphones. I think where I messed up was I went to a playground the first day where lots of trash was stratigicly placed. This run all the sounds together at one time and my ears was confused. Today I decided to go to one of our soccer fields and try it. That was a big help, I only had to work a small area and was able to slowly pick up quarters, nickels, dimes, pennies, and some junk. Also another pocket knife. My clad collection grew another $6.55 today, and I have completly filled 1 shoe box with pull tabs, I have only been doing this for a couple of months and already the clad has added up to $72.41. I will take the pull tabs to the recycle yard this week and cash them in. Oh yes I have also managed to pick up a small amount of the shiny things. I was impressed today while walking across one field just holding the machine down at a fast pace and a small faint beep come from nowhere, so I stopped and checked it, there it was 2 inch's down a small white gold earring with a stone. I don't know yet if the stone is qz or real. I was amazed by it's size and how it picked up at such a pace. I thank you guys for all your help and advise, I truly take it all and try to use it. So keep your ideas and information coming. Someday maybe I will be able to share some advise to others as ya'll have. Thanks and HH

Nice going on the clad count.
