First day out with E-Trac

Settings were coin program, auto sens +3, gain at 6 (like deep targets to sound deep),high trash, detect deep and fast...Pulled out alot of zinc pennys and they were jumping all over the place in this one little area on smart screen so I x'd those numbers out...Found a square tab at 5 inches??????..like what the hell and it was under a old tree taggled in the roots(had to cut alot of roots to get to it)...The ID numbers on like everything seem to jump all over the place, the tone helped alot sort of like the original minelab back 20 years ago..hmmm.. Im starting to think these ferrous and conductivity numbers were just put there for eye candy and there really hasn't been any advancement from the original minelab..I'm getting discouraged :(

Iv gone crazy about 3 times with mine. Wanted to wrap it around a tree. I have tried everything wile in the field at some spots to get it to ID better but there was just to much in the ground for that to happen. Iv even ran it as a silent no threshold detector thinking it would act better in the bad trashy spot but it didn't change a thing. the only real setting that seems to really do anything is sens. Fast on and deep off helped a little. Any one that's thinking the threshold on this detector does much is thinking back from the old days. I can and have tested the threshold on a deep nickle reading that would barely hit turned up and turned down the threshold and it did not change the ID or mask or blank or do anything to stop the e-trac from hitting the deep target. I truly think that on this detector the threshold it just there to let you know when the e-trac is discing something out. I'm sure folks will reply and say otherwise but that's what iv found. So other than sens there ain't a lot you can do with this monstrously deep detector. Just keep it stable don't push it to hard back down on the sens if you must. It will find deep coins really deep coins. I love mine.

Theirs really 2 setting on the e-trac 1 is sense the other is all kinds of sound processing options that's how i look at it. :minelab:

I agree that its a really deep detector but I feel like I've been time warped back 20 years...Back then I had a Minelab X something with a sunray meter and a whites 6000 DI PRo....The Minelab went deep but the discrimination wasnt so good and the Whites didnt go so deep but had excellent discrimination..I think we have to make a choice of what we want because no detector has both excellent depth and discrimination..I don't think metal detectors really advanced much in two decades ,just more bells and whistles added on....As for the E-Trac, I'll cut the setting down to low trash and hunt clean areas where you just dig everything anyway like I did with my original minelab..

Its a love hate thing with the e-trac. Just when your ready to throw it in a pond it hits a nickel deeper than the depth scale will show.
