First day hunt in VA.........

Hit an old farm that had a big Union camp on it. My finds were 21 big musket balls, a bunch of CW buck shot, a NY cuff button, a neat flat button with an eagle on the back mark, a small button with a raised 18 on it. (those two are likely pre CW) also a toungue from a belt plate, and a few other goodies.

there Mike ! Good going, wish I had been along. Would the 18 have been a regiment number ? Steve in so az

Very nice finds Mike!! Those musket balls are BIG!! Any idea what caliber?

I found out the other day that a customer of mine who let me hunt their farm just sold it lock, stock and barrel. But, they are getting ready to purchase a bunch of land along the Holston River, prime CW territory and I have permission to hunt it!! Just waiting for them to sign the papers...so...come on down!!!

Those are cool finds Mike, sounds like you had a great trip.

Was this a team thing, or a every man for himself? Either way, you found some good stuff!!

7 teams of 22, but you could hunt by yourself. There was also a reason to hunt hard to get top hunter on your team and get a free ride next year.

I will for sure! I have to get the calipers out to get the size, but I think they are 64 cal.

probably Rev war.
