First day AT PRO

Today is my first day with the AT Pro. Have much experience with Garrett detectors and have read the manual and I'm setting off to find some good stuff in Bogalusa La. maybe some SILVER who knows. At Pro seems easy to understand and the controls seems closely matched to other Garrett units. Notch is easy but I am going to hunt in coins with the PRO mode and dig every target that hits. Charles Garrett in his booklet on how to use a metal detector states that we should dig every target that gets a clear and continuous response. Even with my Tesoro DeLeon I forgot that fact. Most of us do, in this age of detectors that try to figure it out for us. Anything higher than a 30, I will dig. I will listen to the tones and I will learn this machine. Wish me luck.

I actually dislike the coin mode - either hunt in Custom - Pro (dsicrm at 25) or Pro all metal with iron audio off (discrim 25). I found that the knotch missed copper and brass - granted I am relic hunting. I prefer all metal as the depth is a tad better.

good luck

Well today was my first day out with the AT Pro. I set the machine up in the PRO setting and I cancelled out the iron to the 40 sett ting. After hunting for a while I killed the iron audio so I wouldn't hear all the noise and I stretched the machine out to see what it would do. It was great on coins, finding some clad and modern pennies. I got a hard hit on coins and then a low tone and dug down and found a rusty piece of iron and then I thought that I had adjusted for iron and two inches below the rusty iron a modern dime peeked out. now one thing I have to say is that if you get this detector get the Garrett Pro-Pointer. This pointer is a little miracle worker. Had I not had the Pro Pointer, I don't think I would have found that dime. Now here's the kicker. I dug a hole in my backyard today when I got a solid coin hit and out of this trashy hole, I pulled half a coke can, three rusty nails, a nickel and two pennies. UNREAL!!! MY Tesoro or ANY Tesoro would not find this. I called Garrett and told them that I thought that they had built the finest metal detector that I have ever owned. I have never used this machine before today and Brad and Sue at Garrett can tell you this! I am selling my Tesoro Deleon today! If any of y'all(yep I'm from Texas) can give me any tips or tricks to use please help me. This thing ROCKS!!

Go back and read all the older posts, we've all given some good info on the detector in older posts. John Edmonton especially!
