First CTX Large Cent / Squeaked Out Another Silver

Got permission to hunt a late 1860s to early 1870s Farmhouse yard at 6 PM last evening. I went out at 9AM this morning and hunted for 6 hours. All of the Indian Heads were hiding, but the Wheaties just kept on popping! 20 all together!

Congrats on a great hunt, DoB! Too bad the LC has a hole, but it still looks good to me. That Barber is in really nice shape.

Thanks. I was surprised at No Indians and missed a silver Roosie by one year - dug a 1965. I dug a spill of 8 wheats, so singles but some 2 or 3 in the hole together. I kept thinking Why, why, why no silver in with these guys. I almost missed the Barber. It was only about 6 to 7 inches deep and squeak somewhat in one direction and even fainter in the other. I kept wonder how this would have sounded on my E-trac. That thing hit some good targets deep. The CTX seems to do OK in 5 to 6 inches of soil, deeper on pennies.

That is definitely a "hole in one" lol Great finds! Beautiful barber dime. It is hard to see with the glare - the pin in the right hand corner - last photo - Red Cross?

Sorry about that. It actually reads, "Home Nursing".

Very nice. I think the LC is better with the square nail personality

Congrats

Hmm. Sounds like you don't quite have the handle of your CTX as you did your Etrac. Congrats on the finds, Maybe you have an ear for the Etrac better and should go back to hunting with one of those, the CTX may not be your cup of tea. HH

Great hunt Duke as for the dime might have been on edge or mixed with something else all coins don't come in at the same sound level at the same depth. Nice snag on the barber . sube

it is still a neat pin!
