First CTX hunts

First let me say so far I love the CTX. Having used the E-Trac for the last 3 years the CTX felt like an old friend.I was comfortable with in within the first 30 minutes. That doesn't happen very often with a new detector. As most have already mentioned the CTX feels lighter than the E-Trac. Amazing what a simple change in design can do. I don't care for the pinpoint button as it seems a bit awkward trying to hold in the pinpoint button. Personally I feel they should have made it so you just press the button once to go to pinpoint mode and again, or the detector pad, to go back to motion mode. That is the one an only part of the CTX I don't care for.

Of course like every detector I've ever owned the first place I take it is the city park. I've cleaned this park out over the last 30 years so any detector that can pull a keeper is good in my books. I tried Gonehunting's settings and like the TTF on the E-Trac didn't care for it much. This park just has way too much deep old iron. At 12" that rusted iron still gives off a false positive and sounds like a deep coin. I felt the CTX VDI accuracy was better than the E-Trac. A little more reliable on those deep iffys and really good on nickles. I thinking about creating me a nickles only pattern and see if I can't pull a bunch of keepers passed up by most other detectors. There is 128 years of trash so most people avoid targets in that range. I think the CTX could increase the odds enough to make it worth a try.

My very first target was an old pocket knife about 8" deep. This one I attribute to Gonehunting's settings for sure. I also pulled a couple of wheats and a 1942 merc and a fair amount of clad. Keepers from the next hunt was a 1920 buffalo and another wheat. All in I'm i'm very impressed and happy with the CTX 3030.

With the 0 descrim of Gonr Huntings setting you will have to listen to more but for sure know what your dealing with. With a little practice you can tune it out.

The CTX does ID a bit better at depth in my opinion. For sure faster.

I run an open screen in combined mode as well and have been picking up some stuff that I've missed with the E-Trac and TTF - faster processor on the CTX is sifting through the trash better I think.:clapping:
