First coins using the new x-terra 70

Well I have made a start! After picking up heaps of junk I started to pick up coins & thrilled one is an 1916 penny.
Also I had dug a rolled tube of nestles condensed milk, which I unrolled & found the price of 2/- still there!
I made some enquires as to what may have been in area & found out it was a caravan park soooo I plan to spend
a lot more time there when I am able to. My best?? find on the beach was digging a ladies thong!! I put it aside &
checked the hole only to find the signal was gone! Had me puzzled as thongs are made from rubber so I brushed
the sand & sea-weed off & there is a small motif attached to the thong.
I am taking things slowly, found things too confusing but much happier now...decided to dig everything before I
start cancelling etc. Found I was running the senstivity too high in some areas, so guess it is a lot of trial & error!
cheers,
Kath

Run with low threshold...keep sens. as high as you can while the threshold remains stable..when it get erratic time to lower the sens...Takes time and do dig everything on the beach where digging is easy as thats the way you learn...

Nice one Kathy keep up the good finds. Sounds like you have a promising area to detect, you never know what your going to get from that spot. In areas like the beach your sensitivity can be a problem as you figured out. Have you tried beach mode? I used prospect mode on the beach when I first got my 70 because I wanted to get used to it. I did this so I became familiar with that particular mode for when I went nugget hunting, anyway now when I'm at the beach I use prospect mode only because there's just too much variety to miss out on with other modes besides all metal of course. I have dug many deep targets using prospect mode on the beach. Have fun!
Cheers!

Nothing builds confidence like success does Kathy. It sure is nice to find a coin as old as that. My oldest to date is only 1917. I sure am glad that it was a rubber thong that you found, and not one of the other variety; otherwise there might be a very embarrassed beach goer.:devil:
Mick Evans.

Dan-pa I found that very interesting about threshold..can you give me an idea how low to start off please?

Nugget71..Yes I have only used beach mode & once I adjusted the sens found it worked very smoothly BUT I will
try prospect Mode. I have only prospected for nuggets so want to try xt out in some trashy areas next season.
Have a gpx4000, only used it twice but made a HUGE difference to my tally!! Yep has to be there first etc etc!!
Started off with the Dick Smith for hobby detecting...then got the 1700..but the 4000 to me is like WOW!! :detecting:

Hey Mick I LIKE your sense of humour..don't loose it..its a gift!! :clapping:

ALL suggestions I greatly appreciate so thanks everyone,

cheers,
Kath

Well done Kath you will find plenty in that spot. I started like you
walking away not sure if I missed any and I took the forum's advice and
printed off the FAQFAQ and studied it for weeks and practised it for weeks.
Practise makes perfect well nearly perfect!!!!!!!
happy hunting

A good start.with a great machine...Good Luck in the future...on many more outings

Good one Kath. Now for our overseas readers a "THONG" down here in Oz is what you guys call "flip flops" and not a G String.
