Using my BH Pioneer 505 / in my own back yard practicing ...........

Remember I've been at this a week ...

Nails, wire, pop cans, aluminum foil, 5 days practicing, learning the proper dig technique's, as to be able to go in public and it look like i was never there.

Scanning got a weird sound, one i haven't heard before, got all excited thought my first penny, dug, pinpointed ................ BUFFALO HEAD nickle first coin ever, don't know what the year is or mint ... as I'm still an idiot, Indian on one side a buffalo on the other.

God this is so Cool, I haven't even officially gone hunting - just practice... practice . we're talking prat ice here ( so got all Iverson there)

For a hobby, i have to say this is really exciting and relaxing. Wife is thrilled too. I registered her for a free drawing at a coin store where i bought a book. She won a 2002 American Silver Eagle.

I couldn't have written a better script to start MD hunting, nor a better way to get the wife interested in the Collection side.

When I first got my 505, I went over my yard 5 times and all i found was iorn junk and the bam! wheat penny! I was stokted! So I know how you feel. keep practising, the good stuff will start to roll in.

Congrats - you think coins are cool , wait till you find your first gun !!

The Fankinstein, lives, but in the form of a "Coin Monster". She woke me up (early) this morning- drove me 30 miles with no coffee , ciggs or breakfast - handed me 20 dollors said Knock on that door....

Man came to door handed me 23 books for coins (Every coin type) I handed him the money, he said thanks closed the door. I got in the car - wife said i found those for you, start by filling those up.

I complained ... to no avail, using the I don't know anything about coins, barley started detecting .... She just smiled.

Stopped at McDonalds, told me to order, eat - she got up , said back in 10 min. She returned empty handed, asked where she went , "Walk" was all she said.

Not once did she indicate anything about coins, MD, just gave me impression we was going after some furniture the whole time.

Got home took books started looking threw them - some are real nice. she stopped in and said what do you think, said nice deal but i dont know any of these coins.

Then DROPS THE BOMB ..... The Official Red Book of United States Coins 2013, but on a brand new Kindel Fire HD 32gb with the Kindel version of the book already on it. THen told me of the scales, Test kit, and a few other items on the way.

I'm jazzed she this excited in something I am but God what a monster, I blame you all LOL.

She ps'ed it all saying 2 more books where comping UPs - paperback North American Coin and Prices / spiral ANA Grading Standards for United States Coins.

See. Whats worse, shes in OSP engininering for shtreets ,sewers , water , electric so on / thus knows lots of contractors that do work ... she set me up an appointment to "hunt" 3 acres next week after they pull up the parking lot ofan old train station. Telling me that she has access ti city mapos dating back to the first utility ever run.

Monster I tell you, Im gettin kind of afraid.... think if i cant find squat ... or just slag / wonder what her tollerance threshold is ?
Wish me luck.
Hope u all are happy with what you "caused" me to create..... HELP

Not sure that I am sympathetic to you or just green with envy! Looks like your only course now is to get Her a machine and get Her to hunt with you!
What a problem to have!

Congrats, I mostly prefer to hunt alone as I consider that my "Me TIme" to get lost in my metal detecing world , and completly forget about everything else.

That being said , I still enjoy the times when my wife goes with me also.

Found a ton of pennies, so far one dime - nothing before 66 tho.

THO I did find a 5 centavos, 1974 from Mexico, Not sure the worth - shes said can be depending on grade 20-30$, not sure where she got that from.

Shes lost her luster / learning the MD is harder since we both have slight hearing problems (she was born with a slight but not total problem, they replaced some type of bone and returned her hearing but its not perfect (only God makes it perfect) - I lost mine in Nam, ruptured one ear, hearing reduction in the other, cuse the typing injured several fingers on that side trying to cover the ear when shell hit).

I dwell on the past there , we are both fine - juss a insight to how the luster has come off of her initial "Gung Ho" became a little aggravation once she tried. Thinking she might stick to research, Its a little hard for me but, I'm enjoying the me time like you said, even when mot finding anything, I feel better after a small hour park walk search. Days seem to flow better an I'm calmer.

Its well worth it, recommend it to anyone ... juss like the excitement of hooking a fish and not knowing whats there

I'm with you on the alone time thing. That time to just escape into your own world is worth more than anything you find.

Cool to have that inside connection to places others only dream of hunting. Sandy and I spend much of our days and nights together, but she goes to bed and rises early while I bed down late and rise, well, you know... later. So we each get a time by ourselves to do whatever we each enjoy. Her parents intorduced us to MDing, so it's never been an issue there. We both love it and pursue that hobby together.

Just for your information i'm to understand that about 1999 the mexican govt. made new coins and ones later back than that cannot be used in commerce so O was told. shortribs
