First coin of 2015 was a two center, today found a 3 center.

I was driving through town and saw some side walk construction, decided I better get out the detector. After about 10 minutes of detecting I got a hit that registered a little lower than an IH (that is Minelab XS speak) and didn't think it would amount to anything. It took me a little while to find a tiny disc with my pinpointer. At first I thought it was aluminum play money, as it was fairly dark and tarnished, but eventually made out the star and crescent and realized I had a silver three cent piece, my second ever. The first one I found was also an 1852, but that one is considerably more worn. The first one was found in a coin spill of two large cents, two fat IHs, 1846 dime, and the three cent piece. That doesn't happen every day.

Continued hunting and got a barber, merc, buffalo, and IH.

Here is the two center and three center together. I haven't been out detecting much this year but i'ts nice to find the odd ball denominations.

That is a great day of hunting! Yes, those 3 centers are tiny and thin little coins. When I initially found mine I thought the same thing as you. Hopefully you can get back to the sidewalk construction and find more goodies!

They were certainly easy to lose; reading up on the 3 center cites that was one of the reasons they fell from popularity. I bet there are many to be found but would meaning digging all sorts of trash.

Congrats on the sweet coin mix- still looking for my first 3-center of either type. Continued success to you!

What town are you in Chris? No,I'm not coming to check out the tear out..lol! Did you have to check with someone before you started hunting it? I've got one here that I'd like to do but it's right on a main drag in front of businesses and I'd rather ask someone on this one than just go detect it. If it was more out of the way I'd probably just go for it. I'd hate to bug the foreman during work and I don't really even know who would have the authority to tell me it's OK or to tell me to get lost. Advice?
