First big hunt of the year :twodetecting:

Larry and I finally were able to get out and do some detecting the other day before the cold Spring air hit. I lasted longer than Larry thought I would (about 2 hours) and I sure had a blast finding a few old coins, etc. I had my trusty stock coil on and when we go back, I'll put my little 5.3" coil on. Here's my finds...1916 Buffalo nickel, 1901 and 1902 Indian cent and a few wheats with the oldest 1920 along with a bit of clad. When I pulled out the old button, I knew it was an oldie. I could see it had some writing on it but couldn't tell what. When we got home I cleaned it and it had "EXCELSIOR" on the bottom. Then we looked it up and it's from the New York Excelsior Regiment back in 1861. :surprised: Oh, the square nail too.

None of the targets were all that deep. I'm guessing the nail was the deepest at 6". The ground was quite wet, but perfect for digging.

Larry found a few good targets also in one hole. :)He gave up on the hole even though he was getting a jumpy signal and I asked if he wanted me to swing my MXT over it and I did. My trusty MXT was giving me a "DIG ME" signal of 52. Needless to say, he came back and he dug around and sure enough.......out comes an Indian cent for his pouch :ranting:Yes Honey, you're welcome!!! :poke::cheekkiss:

Thanks for looking and HH, Nancy

Harold

Harold, I'm going to have to make sure Larry reads your post!! Yes, he was using his "super V3. Thanks, Nancy

Looks like you did well I have completely run out of old spots to hunt. I hope all the snow melts real soon so I can hit a few spots I have located.

Great finds, love those injuns and that button is an awesome find as well. Congrats, and glad to hear that you and Larry were able to get out. Looks like a great start to your season, thanks for sharing! HH:clapping:

Nice finds Nancy..you seem to have great luck with that stock coil...might wanna put a Lojack chip on it in case you ever lose it,the boys in blue can bring it back...HH Curt:crazy:

Congrats on your finds Guys, I know you have to be exited about the button.

No, it doesn't have a mark on the button, but it's one of fifty varieties from that regiment. Thanks, Nancy

Nice finds Nancy.
Just curious but how much junk did you have to dig
before you found that good stuff?

I dug a ton of junk on my last hunt (Saturday) before
I found that Roosevelt silver, and the clad.

Katz:)-)

All that digging just tired me out.

Hi licN2chill, thanks and it was a privately owned yard. The house was built in 1900 and I'm sure there's more there. We were only there for two hours before I gave out. HH, Nancy

Thanks Katz. I feel kind of embarrassed, but I did dig one piece of trash besides the old square nail. I usually have a few good pieces of trash in my pouch when coming home from a hunt. My back was killing me and I was digging targets that I figured were good. The Indian cents were jumping all over the VDI scale, but I figured with the target as deep as it was ( 5 inches), I had a darn good chance both targets were Indians. I was hoping anyway. BINGO........they were. HH, Nancy

thats a good way to start off:thumbup:. i cant wait to go to the carolinas this year to get some old stuff.the spring breakers are down here now. just waitin for that low ,low tide.
