Larry and I finally were able to get out and do some detecting the other day before the cold Spring air hit. I lasted longer than Larry thought I would (about 2 hours) and I sure had a blast finding a few old coins, etc. I had my trusty stock coil on and when we go back, I'll put my little 5.3" coil on. Here's my finds...1916 Buffalo nickel, 1901 and 1902 Indian cent and a few wheats with the oldest 1920 along with a bit of clad. When I pulled out the old button, I knew it was an oldie. I could see it had some writing on it but couldn't tell what. When we got home I cleaned it and it had "EXCELSIOR" on the bottom. Then we looked it up and it's from the New York Excelsior Regiment back in 1861. Oh, the square nail too.
None of the targets were all that deep. I'm guessing the nail was the deepest at 6". The ground was quite wet, but perfect for digging.
Larry found a few good targets also in one hole. He gave up on the hole even though he was getting a jumpy signal and I asked if he wanted me to swing my MXT over it and I did. My trusty MXT was giving me a "DIG ME" signal of 52. Needless to say, he came back and he dug around and sure enough.......out comes an Indian cent for his pouch Yes Honey, you're welcome!!!
Thanks for looking and HH, Nancy
