Went to the beach yesterday to get see how it performs .Got out of my truck and went to hook up my head phones for the very first time. I spend about a half hour trying to get that cap screwed on the machine but with no success. When I hooked up the coil, I didn't have any problems. My fingers just could not grip that cap hard enough to get the treads started. I got a couple rubber bands that I had in the truck and rigged it so it did not fall out. I did make sure that the single pin was lined up properly and I knew that was not the problem. Garrett could of designed the unit a little different to make it easier to grip that small cap in such an odd location.
I did the best I could rigging the head phones and started to detect. My total hunt was about 8 hours. The first 4 hours, I dug up everything to see what it was telling me in both the standard and pro mode. The pro mode is definitely the way to go with allot of information for the user to take advantage of. The last 4 hours, I hunted in the custom pro mode adjusting the iron discrimination both on dry and in wet sand, important to ground balance the machine in wet and dry conditions. The iron audio worked great, 99.9% of the time but it does take time to get used to it. I did not detect with the iron audio on, only used it to check my targets. I did notice that the 32 oz beer bottle caps were very hard to differentiate from silver coins. Overall, I was very impressed. I can't wait to see what it does in the shallow water when the weather gets a little warmer. It was not very difficult to use the AT-PRO with it's different functions. For someone just starting this hobby, it would take some time to adapt.
The day did turn out to be pretty good with the exception of the head phones. I did manage to find just under four dollars which is under my average hunt for 8 hours , this was more of a learning process than anything else. I called Garrett to help me with the head phone dilemma and had to use some vice grips to to get a grip on the cap to get the treads started, did manage to finish tightening the cap with my fingers.
