Hi All,
So I took the kids down to our special little beach we go to and gave the new Sovereign a run.
I used the hip mount bag, but didn't use the headphones so the kids would be involved in the hunt.
I should point out that our special beach is secluded and private, and not that many people go there, but I was feeling a bit self conscious first time out and wanted some privacy.
So I switched "disc" and "notch off", put it "all metal" and "track" modes (I have since read that in all metal, it is automatically in track mode), and selected "threshold".
I turned it on, and wound the volume up full, then wound up the threshold until I could just comfortably hear it.
I wound the sensitivity down to 3 o'clock (as I've heard mentioned here, and a friend with this machine told me to).
Does this all sound about right for the beach??
It all seemed to work fine, and when I got a signal I switched to "disc" and checked it again.
Sure enough, on some signals it would then null out, then return with a different threshold tone. The ones I dug that did this were ferrous (I was expecting that, but wanted to check).
On others (in disc mode), it would sound very loudly, and we dug.
While we mostly got beers cans and ring pulls, we did get one ball of aluminum slag and a copper pin broach of some sort (encrusted with oysters).
But I did get some signals that disappeared after we started to dig, and some that sounded only in all metal, with no null or tone in disc.
I've certainly done my homework, but look forward to any advice.
Please feel free to tell me if I'm on the right/wrong track.
I will go to a much more heavily trafficked beach next time.
Cheers all,
