First beach hunt tomorrow HELP!!!

BLRRLB

New member
I'm using a Garrett GTP 1350..a few questions: i'm after gold/silver jewelry but also want the coins!!!

should i search in all metal mode and dig everything?
jewelry mode? i hear rings can show up anywhere from pulltab/nickel up to penny?
i will run the salt elimination setting..
whoever posts here i want to know what detector you use..also maybe a ring count? what other jewelry you found?

Thanks,
Brandon

If the beach does not have an over abundance of iron targets ( ie, nails, washers, wire, etc.) run in all metal. If it does, run at the lowest discrimination setting, where small iron breaks up.

Whatever you do, DO NOT run the sensitivity too high. It is much better when starting off, to run at a lower setting and keep the unit stable, than to run high and hot. Until you get to know your machine, a stable one for beach hunting ( I am assuming wet, salt sand) is always better.

all metal disc # 1 and 2 3 and up deep open use the commended setting for sens. and swing slow dont run u will not cover the whole beach in one day ...these are some of the mistakes i made when starting out i used the gti 1500

Tomcat on the 1350 it's zero mode disc. and that detects everything. so start with zero and then disc. 1-2 which is foil and iron? basically nickel/pulltab is the first ID that i accept?

No Man! You want to hear the FOIL! most little gold rings hide in the FOIL! If you got a good scoop, long handle, light, you can dig everything...its fast, and you will get to know the language of your machine better, dig the iron too, you will find knives and some thin bracelets and necklaces as well....in a few hours, you will know from the signal if you ran over another bobbie pin. Try to think location...if theres a spot or two off to the side of the main beach up in the dune grass where young lovers would most likey frolic, go there! You will know in short order if its worth your time sweeping the main beach area. Theres a lot to beach sweeping, but its a fun and simple place to go to learn signals for sure and there IS gold there! Good luck!
Mud.

Wear your headphones, don't run the sensitivity too high or you will get a lot of falsing, run it as high as possible but the machine still runs smooth. (may take some tinkering, depending on the beach) Wet sand is where you will have the problem. Adjusting your threshold may be a benefit as well, play with your settings from factory to a little less than factory if you have problems with the machine running smooth.

If you run it in all metal you may get a little more depth out of the machine but it may make it go nuts as well, it just depends on the beach. I would prefer to notch out iron and pay attention to foil and everything in between to the far right of the TID scale. Take your time and detect thoroughly, run a grid or a zig zag pattern overlapping your swings. If you find a coin or a piece of jewelry work a spiral from the coin out and overlapping your swings 30 feet or so in diameter, you may find several more good signals. Find cuts in the beach where tides have taken off extra sand, this time of the year there are not recent drops like beach season produces and you will need all the help you can get with a single frequency machine to achieve any depth.

Don't eliminate the dry sand towel line, not many people like to detect that area but it holds coins and jewelry. It also holds a lot of aluminum drink seals and pull tabs, which can be annoying.

Most of all have fun!
