First Barber - Hooray!!!!!

Went out yesterday to a local sports field adjacent to a closed turn of the century school. Hunted for a few hours and found the usual mixed bag of trash, memorials and clad.
I also found a 1919 wheatie and what I thought was a mercury dime. I was excited - only the third mercury I have found. Also found 5 rear sights for rifles. I figure the school must have had a ROTC or similar program.

Now for the best part. I was cleaning up my finds and when I cleaned the dime it I found it was a 1906 Barber dime. Man was I excited. What a great start for the new year. I just hope my luck continues. Still haven't broke into the 1800's yet.

congrats on the barber. it is always a blast to find silver ESPECIALLY when its over 100 years old! i think if you look closely you will that your rifle sights are really yellow brass letters (in reverse) used for printing! look on the end straight down from the 'k' on the edge. keep up the good digs!

I scraped one and it does appear to be brass, so you are right I am sure. I don't see (understand) how they are used to print.
