First Attempt to Hunt Ghost Town...

So, I decided to head out to a ghost town about 18 miles from town. It was a mining town/camp back in the days... plugged the coordinates into the gps and off I went. Got a little nervous when the road turned into loose sand, but hit the gas and kept on going. I got very close, and was disappointed to hit a gate with an ominous sign reading "Danger, No Trespassing for any reason", etc. So, I took another fork that ran up an intermittent stream that was running lightly & made it to the end of the road (pic). Climbed up and peeked over the ridge to the old town site, looked like an active mining operation, so just did some detecting in & along the stream, which was full of black sand, got some weak signals, but wasn't really equipped for digging under a foot of sand in moving water. There had been some mining activity along the creek, old rusted pipe and other iron junk.

Poked around the camp and found a few modern coins from hunters/campers and lots of bullets and trash. Still enjoyed being out in the beautiful country on an unseasonably warm (around 60 deg.) day, did a bit of hiking. There was a line of Copper outcroppings along the way, pics don't do them justice, light green, knobbly rocks. The semi-frozen stream bed was thawing rapidly, so I high-tailed it outta there!

The good news; there's another ghost town about a mile on the other side of this one, have to come in via a different route, I may attempt it tomorrow. Have some pesky work to do today.

Nice scenery to be detecting in.
You managed some finds that's a start:thumbup:

Wow, you drove down that creek bed??
It is about the adventure, the finds are just a big plus..

Yep, that's what passes for super-highways in New Mexico :yikes: - just don't slow down, or you're in trouble. Just got home from 3 hours at the CCC-built picnic area in the Gila NF. Picked up 34 coins, mostly 1950's - 70's, managed one 1949D wheatie and a piece of a charm bracelet, and enjoyed every minute of it!!
