Fired up The X-Terra 30 yesterday.

I managed to get out to my favourite spot yesterday with the 30 for a couple of hours. I had hit exactly the same spots at this location only 2 weeks back with the Explorer for a couple of hours, with a total of $13. Yesterdays results were fairly similar, with $12.53 recovered.
although I usually use the Pocket probe with the X-Terra these days, something of note, that may be of use to other users, is that, I found that watching the spot at where the detector sounds off, seems to be a better way to pinpoint with, than using the pinpoint function. I know that a fair amount of you, would have already discovered this; I just thought That I'd mention it, for those that haven't.
It sure was enjoyable swing the X-Terra again. One of these days, I'll upgrade it to the 70 though and enjoy the extra features of that machine. I may still hang onto the 30 though, as it was the first detector that I've had good success on.

Cause the 70 will end up your main when you eventually get it.
Cheers!

Mick,
I had a 30 and had some trouble pinpointing. I then got a 50 and the pinpoint was dead on. I now have a 70 and the pinpoint is dead on too. I don't know what the difference is if any but I don't have any trouble with the xterra pinpoint feature.

It would make a good back up. I'm actually chomping at the bit a bit at the moment, as a couple I know, who are now retired, will probably buy the 70 in a few weeks; so I will look forward to showing them how to use it, as they haven't detected much before. That way I can get to play around with one and get a good feel for them.;) I have got to play with one very briefly a few months back and was impressed with it. So it will be good to build on that experience.

Yeah. I haven't been overly fond of the 30's coin locating ability. But that is it's only drawback to me. In perfect conditions, it does quite well. There is still a good amount of information about the target that you can get out of the pinpoint mode though and I quite like that about it. On the up side, it has made me to be a better detectorist, because it challenges me to think about different ways of doing things, so that's always good.
