Fired Her Up For The 1st Time

I finally had the opportunity to take the CTX out for the first time. It took me a while to figure out the wireless connection, seems everything I read went in one ear & out the other. What I found out is once you have the detector looking for the connection & you turned on the WM10 module, just hold the connect button on the WM10 & it connects in a second or two. I was not holding the button in long enough when I first tried and wound up just plugging the headphones into the detector in the beginning of the hunt.

Into the 1st hour of the hunt, I decided to start a Geohunt. Once I set that & found a target, I saved it as a findpoint. A tip:smoke: I have is when you find a target, you can press the store button, then save findpoint but don't hit save again when it shows you all the details(depth, position etc). With the detector like this, you can still use it on the target that you found to center the signal even though the screen shows only details of when you first found the target. I have a lousy pin pointer and I can still use the detector to find the signal in this mode either in the hole or on a pile of dirt, but I will not lose the details of depth, position, when you first passed over the target. Just don't depress the trigger button, otherwise your details are lost. If it is a good target, then you save it, if not, hit the detect button and keep and move on. If you are detailed oriented and you want to have each target identified when you log into xchange2, you may want to take a notepad & write down the coin or object because the findpoints add up pretty quickly.

The screen is amazing with the target trace and target trace pinpoint. I feel like a better detectorist with only a few hours on the machine, my confidence is enhanced with the detector. The combined audio is such a plus, that I think it is the best feature is on the CTX, but Target Trace is great too, and so is pattern 2, heck its all good..

I went to some school grounds & a lake area to get myself comfortable. The CTX felt easy to swing, it is well balanced & doesn't feel like you have 5 lbs on your arm. In digging my targets, I noticed the depths were either right on or maybe an inch shallower than the meter said. Maybe if the increments had 1/2" added, it would be spot on.

Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase, & even though I didn't find silver on my Maiden Voyage, I know there will be many in my future. I did find a 10k gold ring so that was my good find for the day. My settings were Combined Audio, Auto +3,Sounds Normal, Target Trace & Pinpoint sizing, saved as mode 6. I switched back using pattern 2 to open the screen when there were multiple targets just to hear what is sounded like when when I used my E-Trac without this function. Wow was it more confusing with all those sounds compared to combined audio.

Good Luck everyone with your machine and Happy Hunting.

Sweet!!! good job and glad you like it. Bought mine today and looking forward to swinging it soon.

WTG on the finds what was the number on that little gold ring ..:twodetecting::minelab::cheers:

Great job on the finds and the detailed report Don! I must say you have been real patience waiting for that CTX with all the delays and deserve to have some real finds like the ring. Do it again.....

An alternative to a notepad, if you have a cell phone with video capabilities, you could do a very short video and just say Find Point (whatever) is a 1900 barber quarter (or whatever) and take a still picture of the find right then. Once in Xchange2 software, you can edit the findpoint number to whatever the find was and, also, add the picture if so desired.

great job with the report...

Nice start with the CTX, nothing worse than getting blanked with a new detector.

You mentioned the Geohunt, originally the GPS was a non-event for me, but I must say, I love that feature now, once you hunt a site a few times, it overlays the routes you took, especially nice to see that when you thought you were walking in straight lines, it has you zig zagging diagonally across the area, good to know i'm continually missing the area I wanted to hunt.
