Fire pit hunt :surrender:

Got out today at city park in cambridge MN the WPA built a fire pit in the mid 1930s its made of split stone and is about 12 ft across this is whear i decided to get rid of my silver umax because it could not get a good signal it just beeped like a radio that was changing stations as fast as you could swing the dial well i might say i was a bit hasty in getting rid of it for that reason because even my compadre was beeping like a goose on speed i really had to slow down my swings and swing short distances and in less than 2 sq ft i must have found 40 nails 10 bottle tops numerous foil and melted aluminum things this is altimat trash picking ---- but i just had it in my head that all that iron would be a good spot to mask a coin or a ring nether of wich did i find i think im going to bring my sifter back thear and sift it i know my neodeneom magnet was doing a find job of finding nails and any iron bits that would set the detector off it would just load up whith nails and bits of iron i dont know why but i find it chalinging total clad count today 2 nickles one dime

I'd expect any detector, unless set to full discrimination, to behave the way you describe in that location. I think your sifter may pay off better than detedting in a site like that.

Older fire pits are good places for relics. Dig about 4 inches of the surface trash off and there should be some good finds. It;s going to be more digging than searching. Just don't get run off . They may be glad for you to clean it out.

OMG Gunnar,

You are a glutton for punishment.

I should be one to talk though.

I have done stuff just like that.

If nothing else, you can learn stuff that way.

I hope you get some goodies.

A place like that could pay off.

Good Luck,

Tabdog
