Finished the MX Sport Coil Adapter...

Hi All,

I finished making the Adapter late last night. I did and indoor test quickly using the 5.3 Eclipse coil and it seemed to work well. If you look closely in the pics, you can see the adapter attached and the VDI readout for the coins tested. If I get a chance tonight, I'll take it out after work to give it a spin.

I'll let you all know how it goes..

Should receive the 8 pin female from Mouser tomorrow. Really want to see what the 9.5 spider concentric coil and my 4x6 shooter coil will do with the MX Sport. Thinking both are going to be really hot on coin hunting. Stock coil is great but in trashy areas it hit on every little piece of crap in the ground, lol. Of course I could turn off the reject volume but kind of enjoy finding out just how much junk is lying around in ground. I am thinking maybe the High Trash program and adding in one or two of the lower bins that have been notched out in the factory setting may work good in trashy areas. If the spider coil is really hot may drop the bucks for the water proof 9.5 inch when working the water.
Good luck and HH.

Very informative post. I have a V3i and MXT Pro, so I would also like to use my existing coils for land hunting.

Just a caveat, that I don't think has been mentioned in this mod is, "DO NO USE UNDERWATER WHILE USING THE ADAPTER". Even if you used waterproof connectors for the adapter cable, the coil connector on regular eclipse coils are not rated submersible.

Well, I took one of my sons with me the other night to a local park that I and others frequently dectect around here. My son is six and he wasn't going to have any of the nonsese of looking for gold buy digging pulltabs. So we just did a little cherry picking so he could add to his pigging bank. The photo of the coins in his hand was about 25-30 minutes of poking around in a pretty trashy area, and I think the coin count was 8. All and all, we were there for about 45 minutes and found 14 coins total. I think two more quaters, a dime, another nickel and a few more pennies. I was not able to take a photo of them before he thru them in his bank.

We were using the Detech 5" DD coil, and it worked really well. None of the coins were deeper than 3-4 inches. We weren't really taking our time to look for anything real deep, we were looking more at finding the good consistent numbers within the trash. This coil also, is reporting the VDI's a bit lower than normal like the 5.3 coil did the first night I checked the adapter. Again Quaters, were coming in at 78-80. But I'm happy with the adapter.

Also It was suggested to make sure to state that the adapter is NOT WATERPROOF. And if you choose to make one of these adapters to use on your machine, you do it at your own risk.

Thanks for looking.

I added that to both post, this one as well as the first post on the construction of adapter.

I had mentioned that in the first posting, that I did not care if was not always 100% waterproof. I just wanted to be able to use coil that I already have for landhunting.

So anywho, it works great and is surving the purpose that I wanted it too.

Thanks Again for the good word.

Nice work!

Steady hand and keen eyes! Very nice, thanks for sharing.

From what I read on the Whites forum, the MX Sport coils are tuned differently then the Eclipse series. VDI and Discrimination readings would vary too much and therefore Whites will not come out with an adapter.

The shift is at thd high end as i stated above when I use the adapter. Dimes come in from 74 -77 and quarters from 78-80, when I am used to dime around 78-81 and qiarters at 83-84. Nickels are basically the same at 18 and I used to hitting nickels at 19. I did dig two quarters together in the same hole and they rang in at 83. So I think the tuning subject is not a real issue at all. And the numbers have been consistant witb both big and small coils, and whites or detech coils.

I intend to buy the other two waterproof coils, but I really hunt in alot of very trashy site and I like a very small coil for them.

Jrnwrkr,

Sorry for the late reply, I have just been very busy at work and hardly any down time. So I missed seeing your post at first.

I have been asked by a number of people if I was going to make and sell them, but unfortunately, there just isn't enough time in a day for me to even attempt it. I was rushing to make mine in the little window I had to make it. Also this is why I posted exactly how I made it and where the parts came from. Although, I would like to find a better made connector for the M12 8pin female connector, but again it is getting the time. Really thought that maybe one of the other companies out there, with the resources to aquired the parts at a much cheeper price would have concidered making them once I showed it was doable. Reguardless of what White's in saying about the issue.

Right now I still want to get he time to box my MX Sport up and send it off for the firmware update.

I have ordered both to build adapter.....2 to transmit and 2 to recieve. Does it matter which wire goes to the pins......example 2 wires to the transmit could be switched.....also the two recieve wires could switched.......I guess what I am asking to see how you done it! I looked at diagram 4 wires coming from the 8 pin to the 5 pin. What colors go where on 5 pin from 8 pin? Is there a ground 5th wire? Thanks

I want to convert my at pro waterproof headphones to use with my MX Sport, Where can I buy the water proof end?

I think it is Mouser Eletronics, google Mouser eletronics. If you read back through some of the post you will see the part number for the 8 wired connector. Then contact Mouser for a connector for your head phones.
