FINISHED SAND BAR HERES THE LOOT

IT TOOK ABOUT 16 HOURS TOTAL IN A 3 DAY PERIOD . I was hoping for more gold , but 1 is better than none. i found a 8.9 gram 14k white gold band and the rest of the rings are silver and one nice silver bracelet . and some junk jewelry there were a few silver pendants also . and 43 thousand bottle caps and pulltabs . the sand bar is on a private man made lake far away from shore . but i was able to borrow a friends paddle boat for the 3 day hunt . i think the property owners on the lake leave their jewelry at home before going to the sand bar. thats my guess. but maybe someone hunted it before me and left all the junk . it was odd though because most targets were fairly deep at around 8-12 inches so it seemed to me that it hadnt been detected and most of the change was there for a long time.

Hey Pull Tab!!!!! What model is your machinne???? Has not discrimination??? Do you have the Excalibur?

it is an excall 2 and the discrimination is at # 1 which only ignores iron so i dig it all except what the iron mask nulls out . i like to pick up the trash the first time , so the next time i go there i dont have to spend so long digging junk .

Hi Guys,

Now here is a really dumb question coming up! when you see a sand bar where is the best place to search? the whole thing,on top, the sides or underneath. I always wanted to ask that one and when i saw this thread it seemed the right time. Happy hunting .

A sandbar at a salt water beach is very different from the sandbar discussed in this thread. At a regular sand bar off of a salt water beach your best bet is to hunt the base of the sand bar not the top. The targets are heavier than the sand that makes up the sand bar and those grains of sand are being constantly moved by wave action. The sand bar actually moves a grain at a time not as one unit, watch a sand dune when the wind is blowing across it hard and you'll get a good sense of what I mean. The upper area of the sand bar is comprised only of sand with perhaps a few items that are very light and present a good amount of drag like pull tabs and bottle caps but even these light, junk targets tend to get pushed over the edge and into the deeper water at the base of the sand bar.
A sandbar also acts as a trap for heavier targets that are being pulled out by the back wash in the surf zone, this is the principal that makes the 'Lane' and the 'Mine' prime hunting areas. Gold and silver jewellery don't move a lot compared to the sand because they have a higher specific gravity and less drag than the sand, but jewellery does move some and always downhill not uphill. Try dropping a junker ringon the slope of the beach in the surf zone and after a minute go search for it, you will find it down the slope not up the slope of the beach.
I should note that there may be gold underneath the sandbar but it will be too deep for you to sense it with your detector and a very difficult dig to try and retrieve it several feet down even if your detector could sense it.

I hope this helps answer your querie,

BDA:cool:
