Finished our last race yesterday, serious Mud Race...

The last race at our track yesterday was a hard one for the guys. Flat out in some serious rain and mud. They are all racing for
points for the end of the year, so no one is backing off. Lot of wrecks but no injury's. I grabbed these off and out during the day of
the mud....I have a full video of it, I will see if I can make it into some small clips.... Believe it or not, we all like mud riding and often just
the club guys are doing it on a rainy day for kicks. It gives us some advantage over the west coast riders where they are nut used to riding in slippery mud.... As hte bike is all over the place and traction is tricky, you are some wasted at the end of running flat out for 1/2 hour.... There are only a few of the shots but it will give you and idea. I know I had fun......... Expand them and you can see how hard it was raining....

I can see how riding in that would take it's toll on the body. Lot's of extra corrections to maintain balance in that slop. Reading your "last race" caption sure marks the coming of an end to yet another summer. For all the extreme heat and humidity we had this year, I'm not sorry to see it go. Great shots of what surely was a fun day for all.

From what you are saying, this type of race is "never rained out," correct? I can easily see how someone would be worn out after thirty minutes of racing in that environment. Good action photos! Kelley (Texas) :)

this spring when most of the track went down stream. We have raced in major snow storms in spring, along with big time mud, this was not to bad as it had bottom. Spring melt back east here, don't seem to be a bottom.... Even did one with major ice blocks all over the track that came down stream and ended up on the track.. We moved them off the track part and ran...I have pictures of it somewhere here I will dig them up. All these guys race the full series from Spring until fall....They have a big banquet, awards, dinner and bunch of sponsors there, who are looking into riders. big time sponsors scout our tracks and the others when they hear of a rider who is ready to move into pro status... Good money in it if you can get there...Few actually ever do... Lot of X factors in the sport that will keep you from getting to the top. Its also a young mans game, most are pretty washed up by 30....Still good riders but the new comers start at a higher level if you will.... Racers all want first place, 2nd place is still first looser... We look at it in our club, that anyone in the top 5 is capable of a win and even down to 10 places in many classes....There always seems to be one thats a step above the rest and makes it look easy. Easy it isn't...

They run flat out for 30 minutes.... Unless you have done it, Wayne would know also, you have no idea of the body conditioning it takes to do it... Hard on the bikes....as they are running flat out... Not uncommon to rebuild a bike after every event for the pro's.... My son does his every 10 to 15 hours of riding...New piston, rings, wrist pins, cranks, seals connecting rods if needed. Trannys, 40 hours of that kind of beating and they are ready for a rebuild.... We do all our own work....Guys with big time sponsors get their own machinics, 18 wheeler truck with extra bikes, tires, parts etc, all paid for by sponsor.... My son has a sponsor but its local and they do it so the locals will look at their bikes and gear....

Like most hobbies in racing, boats, bikes, cars, trucks quads and horses it becomes a money pit. I guess you can't put a price tag on hobbies if thats what you really want to do....

Here are a few more pictures of it Sunday........
