Got to hunt for an hour or so before the rain came. I tried using the smooth setting and looking for targets in iron. Found the three nickels. One was only a couple inches deep but masked by iron. Wish I would have been filming. One of the nickels looks like an 1885. These were all taken from a public park........;o)

Nice grab. I hit one of those today too also in the iron.

Nice finds Bill. I also went to a park today but came home with a pile of clad, a mountain of pull tabs and nothing "good" at all.

I wish I could have had a day like yours. It definitely looks like an 1885 to me. I don't use the smooth setting at all but was planning to give it a try one of these days.

Thanks for sharing, I always look forward to your next post.

Nice digs Bill! And thanks for posting your in Central Missouri, its nice to see where the finds come from without giving away the secret spot???????? LOL!
I post my finds and where I was hunting on a local site and it drives hunters fits thinking I am giving away the only spot in the world to find treasure. Its a very big beach you know.

Nice recoveries Bill. I agree, that sure looks like an 1885 to me, too. Congrats!!! HH Randy

Thanks for the comments. Too bad it wasn't in a little better shape but I am happy to have found it.

Nice finds!!! Can't believe a V nickel was only a couple inches deep. You never know...

Must be Liberty Head Nickel day. I found one as well....a 1903. My first "oldie" with the CTX. Congrats on your finds, Bill!

Here are a few more pics. I think it is an 1885 for sure now. I cleaned it up with some soap and a nail brush.

I really hate you guys that get to detect locations daily that have a real possibility of giving up something older than clad coins!! Here in the Peoples Republic of California, anything built in the 60's is considered "historic" or old. In which case it is either placed off limits, or targeted for demolition so a new parking lot or mall can be placed over the ground!!

OK all kidding aside, those are some outstanding finds and I couldn't be happier for you. Makes my vacations back home to the land of 17 and 18Th century homes is so much the better seeing these finds after suffering with tot lots and parks out here in the concrete and asphalt jungle called Southern California!

Excuse me, I need to go fall down and cry.

Anytime you come through Missouri let me know and I will take you to some sites. I do not have any super old sites like they do back east but can still make some good finds.

Great finds! You'll have to tell us a little more about your long tone experience.

Actually it was the smooth setting......;o) I just used the smooth option and tried to listen for anything that may have been mixed with iron. I believe the 1885 was real shallow but masked by iron. The other two were not really masked but deep. That setting takes some getting used to for sure. I will try to do some video using it.
