Finds from the 1700's being

donated to Millstone Historical Society. An officer there called me and asked where am I finding the musket balls in the Millstone area. They want to keep records where 1700's military type stuff was found. Said I found them here a there, miles apart, one musket ball at a time, not all in one area. Told her I will donate these finds to them, many of the finds are from Millstone area. She was grateful to get stuff from that time period, they are looking for a building for a museum. Millstone goes back before the Rev War and there was troop activity around the town. She is hoping to get me into some of the old yards there, and I will donate any old finds. Top left pic is King George pennies, all badly corroded, I'm not donating my best ones, most I find are badly corroded. All my really old buckles. The old pen knife was found in the woods where a skirmish was along with several musket balls. Not sure, knife might be Rev War era. Five pounds of musket balls. Small and large flat buttons. The woman called me at the right time, I was thinking of giving this stuff to my cousin, she sells stuff at flea markets, but I'd rather see Millstone township get it. Jabbo

Those buckles are awesome.. if you feel alright about letting some stuff go to a museum, thats great.its better that many people can enjoy your finds , might get you into some great places. I went out today but soon went home as the soil is frozen down at the 6 inch mark.top is well thawed.

Booty, I'm turning this stuff over to the township. If they ever get a museum it would be small, in one of the ancient buildings there. Went out today to an old field, about 50 acres, partly frozen soil. Found only a 1916 Merc, no other coins. It's a huge field, gotta be more stuff there. Was there 4 times, might go back.

Dave, commendable move to donate finds to preserve history so others may enjoy it. Glad you recovered the merc today. What a difference 45 miles makes. Our ground down the shore was easy digging along with temps in the upper 40s.

Ken, I wasn't gonna let today slip by. I hope this woman can send me to local Rev War camp sites, she has knowledge of local history. Will suggest to bring you there too. We will have to wait and see.

Wow ... congrats on all the great 1700's finds ! :clapping:

Great stuff!

Great job on donating your finds. Are these finds from the area you took me to out in the open fields? I hope they can find an old building to display some great finds.

Rocco, How you been. The finds were from the general area of Millstone. Any museum will probably be in one of the old houses in that tiny town. You're making some good finds, keep at it. HH, Dave

I once donated items, museum was never started. Items disappeared into someone's private collection... or were sold ????????????

It's nice to donate so all can see..But so many of those get off the ground "start ups" never happen in real life times...

Not putting a damper on your venture...But I would wait till museum is operational before donating...

It's possible they may never open a museum but I want to do something with these things, been sitting in my cellar for years. My other choice was to give them to my cousin, she sells stuff at flea markets every weekend during warm weather. Rather donate them to the township where I found most of them.

Yeah, my Mom donated a complete Confed officer's uniform to a museum once. They have no trace of it at all. I don't have much use for those people as people. The fellow that introduced me to detecting in 1992 donated several large brown paper bags full of CW finds to a local military history museum in the 1980's, same story, no trace of it.

Loan them don't give them to them. Take pictures & catalog them before letting them out of sight. People will say & do anything for the good old dollar.
