We left Ohio on September 8th for a one week vacation in Maine. I spent a lot of time with family and friends - but I was still able to get out on a few good hunts.
I spent two months in Maine a few years ago - so I knew right where I was going to hunt before we got there.
First, I went back to the cellar hole in the woods where I found the two 1700's King George Half Pennies on my last trip - all I found was part of an old Pewter spoon handle.
Guess got all the good one's last time !
Next, I hunted along an old foot path that's been used for over 150 years. There's also a real nice looking old wooden bridge along the path.
This foot path and bridge are very close to where a Tidal Sawmill was located in the mid 1800's.
I found the 1865 Indian Cent and the 1865 Two Cent within ten minutes of each other - they were only 20 ft. apart - pretty cool !
I went back for another hunt along the foot path early the next day - found the 1890 Seated Dime - it was approx. 8" down under the roots of an old pine tree.
The "Brown's" stamped - sterling silver necklace - the "Pearl" Padlock" and the other finds were dug on a small beach that's used by local residents.
Both the necklace and the padlock appear to be very old. I still have to finish cleaning the necklace - it was very tarnished when I found it - maybe I'll have a jeweler put in an Ultra-Sonic Bath.
