Howdy daddyflea--

Nice find on your1892 Indian Head Cent. Of the dates on your list, I would have the biggest smile after digging the 1926-S. Although it's not a "key date" it is a better date. The 1915 also sells at a higher price than the rest of your coins. Of course condition is an important factor in determining value. Best of luck and...

Thanks Squirrel. I think you know the condition and it is poor at best, but you can read the date.

Daddyflea, I know what you mean - Texas soil is generally NOT kind to cents or nickles for that matter. We still enjoy digging them though, right? Best of luck and...

As long as I can read the date I am good. Hopefully I will never be in a situation where I will have to sell my finds. Unless there is Hundreds of dollars involved these coins are worth far more to me to show to the Kids and Grand Kids.

My favorite tactic with the Kids is to ask them what was going on in the world when this Coin was made. What appliances were available back then. Were there phones or cars? Was the US at war? If so who was the Enemy? My kids are getting pretty good at dates and it is a good tool to get them to think especially since all these are found locally.

Daddyflea, I like how you approach detecting and using your finds to teach your children and grand children. Along similar lines, my wife taught 3rd grade for several years and once a year I would take some of my finds and detectors to class and teach some history. Before doing that, though, I would purchase a few V nickles, Buffalo nickles and some foreign coins and plant them in the sandbox. Then let them take turns detecting. It was a lot of fun. I think I created some serious competition! hahahah. Best of luck and...
