Finds From My Last Few Hunts - Multiple Pics :cam:

AngelicStorm

New member
The following pictures are of relics and coins I have found from the last few hunts I have done. One of them is my first silver with the CTX 3030. I will provide my input under each picture. Any advice you all have on the items pictured would be much appreciated. Thanks!

The above picture is of three toy cars I found, a very old nail looking object with a hooked or bent end found two feet under, another nail like object, a pocket watch shell with the inside mechanisms and a larger inside mechanisms of what looks to be a larger pocket watch, an assortment of button like objects found in a small area, an assortment of aluminum like objects (maybe wielding gadgets?), a few shotgun shells, and a couple of unidentified objects in the middle. The big old rusty looking nail or whatever it is, looks to be very old and it being two feet under kind of backs that idea up. One of the two unidentified objects in the middle is the silvery looking object with a symbol of a star or light at the top with rays shining outward.

This picture has some of the maybe older objects of more significance. The top left is an assortment of bullets I found with an assortment of what I think maybe pistol balls with what might be a larger musket ball. I'm not sure on that. The top-center has a brass meter lid. The top-right has the more significant coin finds, including my first silver with the CTX 3030. To the bottom-left of those coins is what appears to be a pet collard buckle beside of what is a pin. The middle-right to the bottom and then to the left is an assortment of the wheat cents with one nickel I found. The dates of those coins are 1942 x2 (attempted cleaning the rust off the shiny one), 1946 x2, 1953, 1955 D, 1941 x2, 1954 D, 1945 x2, 1917, 1940, 1920 (date barely legible), 1944, 1953 D, 1937 x2, 1919, 1934. The middle has a skeleton key and something unidentified. To the left of the skeleton key is a broken ring. Below the end of the skeleton key is a military insignia button and a cub scout pin or badge. Below the military insignia is two buttons of some sort. The bottom-left has two bottles I found. The white bottle looks to be milk glass and I'm not sure on it's age or what it was used for. I found it looking for another target. The clear bottle came in because of the metal top. I'm not sure of what it was used for or its age either. There is a 1932 penny missing from the above picture that I'm having trouble finding (I must find it!). Most of the wheat pennies shown still have to be boiled in olive oil to remove the harmful green stuff. Any ideas of how to remove the rust off of them without do to much damage?

There are more pictures below that I have given more detailed input of individual objects I thought were interesting.

I figured I would start off with my first silver found with the CTX 3030. Nice huh? I found it right beside a light pole in someone's back yard.

This is the second silver I found. It was about 3 inches under.

This is the first Buffalo and significant nickel I have found with the CTX 3030. It was a solid 6-6 1/2 inches under. Its date is 1935.

This is what looks to be a meter lid. It sure had me fooled into thinking I might have had a large silver under the coil. It was about 3-4" under.

I'll let the picture do the explaining here on the details of the front. The only thing I wonder about this find is whether it is a cub scout pin or badge. Anyone know?

This right here is my first piece of jewelry with the CTX 3030 and it looks old! I'm not sure on the age. The band is made of what I think maybe copper and the part that held the stone in place is made of what appears to be gold. The funny thing is if the part that held the stone is actually made of gold then that would mean I have found gold before silver with the CTX 3030 since I found this before the 1964 Washington. That would be awesome! :bouncy: The outside of the band has two naked women with their hands lifted up towards where the stone should have sat. This makes me think that maybe it was a valuable stone. The unfortunate thing about this ring is that the stone was not in it when I found it. I even used a drainer and poured dirt from the hole the ring came out of into the drainer then ran water through the dirt to filter out the dirt. I found nothing. The band was already broken when I found it which may explain it being lost and may explain the stone being gone. Anyone have any further ideas on this ring?

I have done some research on this find and it seems it is a WWI Commander Collard Insignia. It was found in the same yard as the ring and my first silver. All in close proximity. The condition of this insignia is pretty nice.

I thought this was a neat because you can still see some of the gears rusted onto the brass casing.

DSC02116_zpse6a9ed67.jpg

I have no idea of what this is but I thought it was a nail I had dug up to start with until I got home. This is before sliding it out of the rusted looking "sheath".

This is after. Any ideas?

This is an assortment of bullets I found. Four of the bullets I am sure to be civil war bullets. Of the four, two of them look as if they have struck something. I'm not sure why one of the four is larger. Any ideas? I would also love it if you all could explain what the other bullets are and their age. I suspect that the two large ones in the middle are civil war era too since it looks like they have rings around them and had to be shot using gun powder. The large one in the center-right has a perfectly flattened top and is made of a harder metal. The large one in the center-left appears to have struck something and be made of copper. You can see the barrel lines on the side of this bullet. I'm not sure if the silver looking object is a bullet or not (Maybe taboo jewelry?). I know it was coming in at a 12-18 solid.

Any ideas of the age of each one of these shells?

This is the oldest wheat penny I have found. It was about 3-4" under. After sending it in the tumbler and boiling it in olive oil to get the green bad stuff off then getting a toothpick to scrap off the black residue, it turned out nice.

This is the clad I found. The clad not on the paper towel hasn't been cleaned yet.

Pretty nice finds for me to be just starting off with the CTX 3030 and all of those finds being my first few hunts. I hope things continue to get better and learn this machine like a pro.

good work on all the upload and nice finds.i find those rusty pointy things that come off like a sheath and its sharp under cap, i have no idea wish i did

The inside of the ring looks brass in the picture. Typically, a valuable stone would not be put in a non precious metal ring.

The white bottle appears to be an insulator, not sure can't see it that well..
The nail thing may be a hat pin or lapel pin...
Very nice detailed post..
Congrats on your finds..

The bullets appear to be more modern than civil war. The shiny silver colored piece on the right is an insert for an arrow. They are glued in place and the broad head or target tip is screwed into the large flanged end

Nice haul on all the finds.

Cool. I had a suspicion they may have been more modern than civil war.

Thanks. It took me a little bit to get all of them together last night and at least someone else is finding those rusty pointy things. It would be nice to find out what they are.

I would think that since the ring is most likely old, the brass would have started turning green or be degraded somewhat. This ring has no sign of either on the gold/brassy looking area. Also, maybe it may not have had a valuable stone in it but I would like to think it did.

The top-outer edge of the bottle has been chipped off and it has a hole in the middle all the way through. It was made like that. That fact that you say it looks like an insulator kind of explains the hole. I wonder what it insulated. Thanks and HH to you too.

If I remember correctly the Cub Scout Bobcat was a pin on badge that you pinned on the front of you uniform pocket. I had one exactly like that about 45 yrs. ago. I remember the bobcat face, some little things you never forget...

Nice. It must have meant a lot to you. I used to be in the cub scouts too. Those were some good days.

Probably the electric service wire going into the house.... Would have been mounted on the side of the house or possibly in the attic..

looks like your working some productive sites. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I went back to a sight today that didn't produce nothing after I had gridded and covered a lot of ground. It was about five hours of gridding to be exact. This is the same sight that produced the 1964 quarter, the Insignia, and ring. Seems like after covering so much ground and the house being in the middle of town from the 1880s-1890s, it would be producing a lot more. I'm about to make a thread about this type of thing.

Oh, cool. I figured it might have been some sort of electrical insulator.

Hey Angelicstorm, of those shotgun shells you have I can tell you the UMC New Club was manufactured between 1867-1911. Remington bought out UMC in 1911 and that's when you started seeing REM UMC on the shells. I have found a few of both styles, nice finds

Love the silver! Congrats!

Thanks Bart. I have found two more in the last couple of days. A 1954 Washington which I lost after I found it (Still looking for it and it couldn't have gone far!) and a 1940 Mercury.

Thanks for the information. I was wondering who was going to help me identify them. The star one seemed old to me and now you have verified it. Thanks again. :)
